Wooo. Hopefully Santos never plays left back for Arsenal again. If he does, let it only be for a Reserves Match.

Should have done this the last time we had to panic buy a LB. This club is freaking ridiculous, I like Monreal and all but that guy isn't getting us 4th place.

No, but he won't lose us 4th place either, whereas having to play Santos or Vermaelen at LB in any matches might have cost us a shot at 4th.

No he won't, but it just sickening that this is the kind of signings we as a fan base have came to accept from this club. This is nothing more than a panic buy replacing a panic buy. That to me is crazy.

If I'm positive, at least we're fixing a mistake and a massive hole in the side.

On the negative side, its pathetic that its all we've added.

Back on the positive, it makes me feel slightly better after reading the deal was originally for the Summer, and that we pushed it ahead. So, it may have not been as panic as it seems, as in a way we were planning for the future. Kind of.

I just find it disgusting that me and every other fan has came to accept bull**** signings like this. I actually like Monreal but why didn't we sign someone like this the first time. Nope, we wanna be cheapskates and gamble on a guy that has no business playing in England period, let alone for Arsenal.

At this point I'm 100% aboard the fat Russian bandwagon.

Why? There's not much glory in success when it results from someone just buying you out and giving you unlimited money. Any club can do that without much effort (Well, except Malaga, because they're Spanish). How fantastic would it be if Arsenal reclaimed success in their own tradition?

Being cheapskates isn't Arsenal's tradition. That's the big misconception when we were winning things we spent money. In this day in age if you don't spend money you aren't going to win.

There's a difference between a club's spending policies and it's actual funding. You don't need massive foreign investment to have a financially strong club that can build a strong team, whether through smart transfer policies or raising youth talent (both of which Arsenal should be capable).

Its all about the stadium. It crippled us for years, but the plan was always knowing that inevitably it would bring in revenue like never before.

I think we start to spend more in the future, but the issue then is we might be fighting back from further than we anticipated.

I don't want a new owner to fund the club. I just want to see the club to start taking the steps that they said we'd be able to take with finances. I love that we're self-sustaining, but we have to start trusting the future of our finances more than we currently do. The club is confident that they're financially sound for years, so its time we act like it.

I would be confident that my club is financially stable too if I hoarded money every year. I'm not saying spend money like were Chelsea or City. But if I am choosing between a guy that will spend money and actually wants to win things and someone using the club as their own on personal piggy bank; I'm choosing option one every damn time.

I'm always torn as a fan. I'd love for us to splash the cash once in awhile, but I also don't want to end up with Andy Carroll or Fernando Torres. Though, some activity, hell even a confirmed rumor that doesn't pan out is something I'd even like to see at some point.

Arsene has said Gibbs could now be out for several months. So now the move makes even more sense.

I've read a few things with people saying its odd that we've brought someone in who could push Gibbs to the bench, but the kid has proven he can not stay healthy, so banking on him would be terrible. As for Santos...he's Santos.

I agree completely, but what really bothers me is the recent trend of making a profit during the summer transfer window. Those in charge have been talking about us finally being able to spend money for awhile now, but they've as of yet shown no willingness to do so. Yes, we'll be in a good financial position in the future, but we're also IN ONE NOW. We're also currently out of the top 4 with a squad that's crying for another striker up top, and this goes unaddressed. I remember Arsene saying two summers ago that if we didn't win a trophy, he would have to start spending money. Instead, he sold Cesc and Nasri. Next summer, he sold RVP and Song. I would like to think that none of the principal players in our current squad will be sold this summer, and that instead we can add to what we have, but I also wouldn't be surprised if the club once again continued the trend and turned another transfer window profit.

We've had money to spend for awhile, those in charge keep insisting they will spend, and now it's time for them to literally put their money where their mouth is.
