Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Sanchez doesn't ever stop running, even Welbeck show'd he was glad to be out there, getting after balls. I haven't seen that hunger in Ozil at all his season. I hope he get's on track because at the rate our defense is disintegrating we're going to need plenty of goals to get near the top of the league or do any damage in the Champions League.
Out of curiosity, what do you suggest? Move Ozil inside and who should play on the wing? Should Ramsey or Wishire play out of position or do you bring Wilshire in as a sub and play someone else out wide (Chamberlin, Cazorla?).Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
I only was able to watch extended highlights, but that was impressive. We went toe to toe with the champs, and nearly came out on top.
And now our lack of defensive depth could hurt us. At least we had it figured out back there for a year or so.
As for Ozil, he's obviously not as effective on the wing. However, it seems Arsene likes to often put players out there as it forces them to adapt, and in the end become a better player.
But I'm so sick of hearing about him looking like he's not trying simply because he doesn't chase down every loose ball. He's a different player, and it's not right to assume he'll play the same way as other players. He cares, he wants to win, and he's not going to request a transfer.
He's not the guy who will run around everywhere and as a result make a great play. He's the guy who you'll forget about, and will then shred you with a great pass. That is what he does—he's cerebral.
He was tied for 6th in assists last year in the league, and that was his first year in a very different league than he was used to playing in.
He'll be just fine. Even better if we plays in the middle with Sanchez, Welbeck, and Walcott ahead of him.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
The ****ing commentator hammering Ozil all day really pissed me off. He's not a winger FFS!!!!! Wenger's ridiculous for not playing him centrally. What is he waiting for??? Ozil struggled but that commentator needed to chide Wenger for not playing him as a 10. On a positive note Wilshere played the best I've seen him play in a long time and the goals we scored were sweet!Comment

Move Ozil inside and play Ox on the wing until Walcott fit enough to take Ox's place (or Ox plays well enough that Wenger has a decision to make). It's madness to keep playing Ozil where he is completely ineffective. And, as others have said, it was extremely annoying to hear the commentator completely slag off Ozil without addressing the fact that Ozil was out of position.Comment

Also I get why Arsene is trying the 4-1-4-1 to give us more structure and shape, but both goals we gave us were because a lack of concentration and focus not our shape. It's time to go back to the 4-2-3-1 so we can get the best out of Ozil and RamseyLast edited by cdawg44; 09-13-2014, 02:20 PM."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

I watched the game, I get that playing out of position messes with your game. It changes angles, the types of runs you make etc but what does it have to do with running full sprint after a ball?

Honestly, Wilshere should and will be on the bench once Theo is back in October. I see Jack as a super sub along with Santi when the time comes..."If you have a linebacker on him, you might as well start singing their fight song." -- WSU coach Bill Doba on Reggie Bush

Jack was great today, though, and his goal was wonderful.
As for Debuchy, it's being reported it's a "bad strain" but no breaks. So, there's that.Comment

At this point, I'm fine with that, especially if it means Ozil moves to the middle. And really, there isn't any other way to include Theo in the squad, unless Arsene doesn't play Arteta or Flamini.

Cause if you think Ozil doesn't do jack on defense, wait until you see Podolski. Some of his "tackles" border on comical... Also he only can play on the left. Offers zero versatility to the side. Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
As soon as Debuchy went down my stomach turned. Really hope he recovers quickly, he's really grown on me in his first few games this season. And while on the topic of defense, what possibilities do you see for the winter transfer window? What about until then? What sort of tactical change might make us less vulnerable to giving up those quick cheap goals?
In terms of what we can do to stop giving up goals, we've already given up four headed goals this year, which has got to stop. Also, from the little I saw today and from a lot of what I've read, Flamini did a terrible job of protecting the back four, which in turn limits counter attacks.
The need in our squad for a real, strong, capable defensive midfielder is just as present as always. We need someone who excels at sitting in front of our CBs, breaking counters before they can happen, and who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty. And I bet we could've had that kind of player for less than £30m.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Podolski's defensive work isn't great, but he does provide a lot of goals, so I would not object to him starting on the left. Really, anyone but Ozil. I'm more surprised that Podolski has barely gotten any minutes, even in games where we have been trailing. He had a great scoring rate last season, so he would be ideal as a offensive spark off the bench.Comment
