Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
I keep reminding myself that Salbia arrives next year and he's gotten experience (not a ton, but he'll get more after he's fit), he's young, and he seems physically imposing.
It's also sad how some of our most senior central defenders have made me remember the days of Squillaci. However, Squillaci, as he mentioned years later, had absolutely nobody protecting him and his fellow defenders. He honestly seemed to be trying, he just was a poor fit in the league/system.
As of now, Sokratis/Luiz doesn't even seem like they're trying.Comment

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
I know there are a lot of attackers I'm excited about in Arsenal's system, and I know most of them won't make the grade and will end up plying their trade elsewhere, but they are just so good in so many different aspects of the game. Nathan Tormey, one that I do not believe that will make the grade at the end of it all, just scored a pretty nice goal against Villareal today.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
So I subscribed to the Athletic today and I was listening to Handbrake Off, and for their first episode they brought on Lee Dixon.
His analysis of the current state of the club are absolutely spot on with one of my highlights:
“We’re rudderless, and just hoping Lacazette and Auba will score some goals.”

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Bellerin is a great player in his own right, but while he's improved somewhat defensively under Emery, he's suffered immensely from that ankle injury and I don't think he's really ever going to become the world class attacking full back he deserved to become.
Sokratis is a player I called out last year, and honestly wasn't overly happy with signing him. He was on the decline at Dortmund and it's become incredibly obvious that he is not of the calibre he needs to be.
David Luiz is probably the defender I have the most confidence in. I believe he's been incredibly unlucky since joining Arsenal, and I don't think having to pair with Sokratis is doing him any favors, that said, it's pretty clear that he's going to be past it soon enough. At the very least his distribution doesn't disappoint.
Tierney is quickly going to become a fan favorite, but he lacks finish. While the penalty he gave away to Soton was soft, he really shouldn't have gotten himself in that position and that's on him. It's unfortunate he'll probably move on in 3-4 years when he realizes we aren't getting CL football any time soon.
Torreira is an unfinished defensive midfielder that gets way too far forward in many instances and allows the centreback pairing to get attacked far too often. I don't know if it's instruction or instinct but if he were a restrained defensive midfielder I think Emery would prefer him and he'd be better off for it as well.
Guendouzi is young, and I think we generally give him too much of a pass when it comes to his mistakes. It'd be something for me if he was making a bunch of different new mistakes all the time, but he's kind of just doing the same thing. I love his energy, but he, like Torreira needs to get it together.
Ozil is outdated. As much as I love him as a player the creative 10 doesn't exist anymore, there's no reason for him to believe any different at this point either. I don't think it's too late for him to reinvent himself a little bit to be a better two-way playmaker but he won't, and he'll ride off into the sunset with Arsenal, and probably get a 2-3 year stint in the states.
Pepe was supposed to be our savior but he's a ****ing nothing burger wrapped up in a poisoned romaine lettuce wrap. He will have more time to come good and personally I think he'll do that, but not before another manager figures out how to deploy him effectively, also hopefully at some point he'll get some ****ING CONFIDENCE TO TAKE THE DAMN SHOT.
Auba is great, but it's just so clear to me how disinterested he is. I don't know if he knows he's leaving Arsenal soon and he's just kind of getting by but he's clearly not as interested as he was. His movement is poor his ability is clearly still there, but he's just lost that edge and that chip on his shoulder that made him who he was.
Lacazette is the bright spot, but his attitude has definitely turned sour. As much as it's clear he WANTS to win and WANTS to be the guy, his frustration with tactics and his teammates is boiling over. I don't know if anyone here follows basketball closely, but it wouldn't have surprised me after Lacazette scored the equalizer if he had just turned to Emery and shouted "YOU ****ING NEED ME" like Jimmy Butler.
Emery isn't outclassed as a manager, he's not stupid, and quite frankly, I think he'll do better at his next job. When he joined Arsenal I had faith because I believed we'd be getting Sevilla Emery, he implemented a system and worked players into fitting into his system, and I was looking forward to that and his organization of the defense. Somewhere it went off the rails, I'm not gonna bother with figuring out exactly where or exactly why, but it's clear he's not good with freedom, or giving players that freedom. It's clear he's now just chasing results instead of wins. As critical as I was of Wenger at the end of his tenure, I am happy that he never resorted to results-based tactics instead of his beautiful attacking approach.Support Local Sports

Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
No time to respond to everything now but...
I have no trust in Luiz. Go watch him on Southampton’s first goal. He stepped forward twice trying to play an offside trap by himself with no regard for what was behind him. He was nowhere near the deepest man.
As for Emery, that Barcelona game seemed to break something in his head. His first goal seems to be avoiding embarrassment, and he’s been operating scared for too long.
As for Torreira, it’s all instruction. He prefers to play deeper, and at Sampdoria he was essentially their Kante. Emery has been misusing him and never wanted him in the squad. We’ll look like fools if we let him go.Comment
