I think this is KEY. While at I don’t love the sheet, it’s much more about tactics (or lack thereof lol).

Won’t be able to watch live but absolutely can’t wait to get home and watch around lunchtime. Desperately need 3 points today and a strong performance.

There’s some options on the bench too.

I don't care that it's only four minutes in, there are already noticeable changes in how we're playing.

        1. We're pressing.
        2. We're moving forward with purpose, looking to put pressure on their defense.
        3. We played it out from the back instead of playing around with it at the back.

That last one is huge. In the later stages of Emery's tenure, we didn't really play out from the back, but would just play the ball around the back. We just saw what we should've been doing all along—play it out, get it forward. We bypassed their press and had space in midfield by playing out quickly, and not passing it laterally.

Some nice comical defending by Luiz/Mustafi and Norwich have their first through Pukki

As he was approaching just those two, I feared more than I should. An out of form striker approaching your two central defenders should not be a fearful situation...unless you're Arsenal.

Oh hey! A penalty as I'm typing! I wonder if VAR overturns it...no, that's a handball for sure.

Put this in and we're back in business.

I dislike Tim Krul more than RVP.

Honestly, it's like the players still have Emery's defensive instructions drilled into them. Allow shots, stay back, don't pressure near the goal, etc.

It's going to take more than a few days to see any defensive improvements and rid them of the passive nature which they've learned to defend.

Hopefully, Norwich continues to go forward and leave us room for a few goals in the second half.

I can no longer ever call Mustafi by his actual name, but instead, The Scarecrow.

                        Entirely brainless.

This match has been a beautiful reminder of why he's incapable of playing in a game with any type of importance or pressure. Against a poor side in the Europa League? Sure, why not, there's not that much pressure or attention. Games of the opposite? His brain either switches off, or he removes it prior to the match.

                          Okay, many immediate thoughts:
                          • Leno saves us once again, and he's truly improved from when he first joined.
                          • With just a few key interceptions, Torreira showed he should be starting.
                          • Surprised we saw no Pepe at all—was hoping he'd start to be worked back in.
                          • Yes, it was another draw, but it's how we played that was different. We were trying to win before the final ten minutes.
                          • Freddie had two days before this match—I think we'll perform better against Brighton, and we'll need to, as it will not be an easy match.

I have lots of thoughts also.

My main question is why are we SO susceptible to the counter? Is it too high of a line with too slow of defenders? Or is it just defenders not smart enough to know when to retreat? Combo of both?

                            My two biggest takeaways are:

                            1) We looked like we looked in the final days of AW. Dangerous going forward, brainless at the back.

                            2) FL been in charge two days. Going to take time.

                              Watching the replay right now:

                              1. Looking way better with the ball.

                              2. We need a new CB pairing

                              3. Either Auba or Lacazette need to start. I’m personally not a fan when they’re both on the pitch.

                              4. That FM esque 45 minute stoppage time goal changed the whole outlook on the match.

                              5. Time to give Martinelli some more minutes.

I also wouldn’t look into Pepe not playing much against Norwich. Lots of matches around this time of year and I’d wager a fairly hefty bet that Pepe stars Thursday.

I can't believe at the time I didn't realize how damaging losing Koscielny would be. We very, very much miss his physicality and willingness + eagerness to defend and attack the ball.
