I know there will be jokes and groans about how we’re only trimming the squad by canceling contracts and paying off players, but Edu is essentially dealing with sins from the past. It’s not his mess, and this is better than paying players to train.

Southampton might be missing their first-choice fullbacks today. Three points would be swell, and we rotated more than they did on Saturday, so hopefully our freshness can lead to a result.Comment

Another chance for Pepe to step up. As for left back, Arteta previously said they have Cedric, AMN, and Saka who can play there so I assume we’re not making a move this window—unfortunately.Comment

Anyone else find themselves just watching Partey? His control, strength, and complete calmness on the ball is something we’ve missed.
Also, the casualness in which he clears or cleans up in and around the box—not his first rodeo there, at all.Comment

He reminds me a lil of Viera in that regard. Viera was completely different mentality wise though. He was ready to throw down at any second. Him and Roy Keane used to get into every time they faced each other.

Partey does seem remarkably calm at all times. Which is great, it something we’ve needed. His calmness when defending in general was of course molded at Atletico. It’s much appreciated.Comment

Disclaimer: I've been drinking.
I made no secret about my fear regarding if Arteta could lead us out of the rut we were in, and I'm still concerned with some of the reasoning he threw out for how we were playing, but...
I'm still glad he's the manager. We've taken a few steps, and there are hundreds left, but I'm glad he was able to stop the rot and turn things around for right now. Financially, qualifying for the Europa League is a must, so I'm glad we're picking up points, and more importantly the team is playing well.
Glad we rotated on Saturday to be fresh today. Southampton can continue in the cup, that's fine—I'll take the three points this time.Comment
