Re: ***The Official Arsenal Gunners" Thread***
Also signed today was Mika Biereth from Fulham’s U18s. He’s a striker who scored 21 and assisted 13.

Partey injured, and Arteta saying Xhaka is staying. I know, I know, what else is he supposed to say, but just hearing him have to say it because he’s not yet gone has put me on the edge.
This club was loaded with players that nobody would want after when the time came for their next move and we’ve been unable to get rid of any of them, or very few.
Gotta love a Xhaka + Elneny midfield at the start of the 21/22 season.

Roma comes with an offer that is only 5M Euro below their valuation and Arsenal's response is to possibly give Xhaka a raise and 3 more years? You can't make this up.
Do they think he's going to be easier to move in year 3-4 of his new contract when he'll then be over 30?Comment

Honestly—I do not know if I can watch another season of Arsenal with Xhaka as a starter. To anyone who is even thinking about it—spare me reports of how he's such a good leader, his progressive passing, and his positive Euro performances.
He costs the team points. He always has, he always will, and he's an absolute lightning rod in terms of the club, it's footballing hierarchy, and the supporters.
He's slow as **** and easy to wind up, and the opposite of building for the future.Last edited by Krebstar; 08-02-2021, 03:33 PM.Comment

Oh yeah, the slow turns, the lack of recovery speed, the errant passes, the red cards, etc. I don't care if the market recovers next season, his value is not getting any higher because he will not play any better than he already has.
In the future when Edu gets a pass for being burdened with having to offload deadweight from previous regimes, we'll all remember Xhaka's new contract.
As of now, I assume we'll have a few poor, dull, uninspiring results to start the season and make a 'big' signing before the deadline before we place ourselves firmly and securely into mid-table obscurity.
The only 'big club' aspect of Arsenal right now is its history and its ticket prices—that's it.Comment

Hey, Arsenal lads—where you see us finishing this season? For the first time in many, many years, I do not think it's remotely realistic for us to get back into the top-four. It was always a stretch for years, but still possible.
This season? I think our realistic target is getting back into the Europa League, and I don't think that's going to be easy—at all.
We landed 8th in the last two seasons, and I would not be surprised if we again land there again, no matter who we bring in that we've been realistically linked to.Comment
