If either (or both) RLC and Barkley can progress towards their potential then Golovin is completely unnecessary.

Barkley specifically, has such a high ceiling and fits best into that third midfield position. I really don't think we will regret passing on Golovin if Barkley stays fit.

What happened to Barkley? Injuries and inconsistency? I recall him being THE English talent just a few years ago. I watched him dominate matches for Everton.

The inconsistency thing is mentioned sometimes but it's definitely a myth, he was always Everton's top chance creator, assist provider etc.

He stagnated a bit at Everton, but a lot of that has to do with them being really bad and playing football that was basically either "hope Deulofeu can cross the ball to Lukaku's head" or "give the ball to Barkley and he and Lukaku will figure out the rest". Then towards the end he got a pretty major injury and he's only just now coming back.

He's got a lot of potential, and being the most offensive in a 3-man midfield suits his play style perfectly. This plus coaching in an offensive system and having some of the best medical staff in the game, he could really thrive.

Ross Barkley was a little overrated because he's English. He's a decent to pretty good player, but he got that English young boy hype. He also should have been sent off in BOTH Merseyside derbies two seasons ago and I'm still a bit mad about it, so I don't like him. That might cloud my opinion.

Hey take your Liverpool bias outta here mister!

He is the 2nd coming of Gerard, Lampard, and Jonjo Shelvey all wrapped into one tightly bandaged package.

Addressed in the edit. Also, sometimes I wish Jonjo would have stuck around. He's pretty good, but at the same time wouldn't sniff our midfield now.

Everton, I'm sure we can all agree, is not the best place to develop a top class attacking midfielder.

Ross had a lot of hype but was one of the few English youngsters that actually deserved, and delivered on most of it. I'm definitely not a "stats prove everything" kind of guy, but his stats during his non-injured time at Everton have put him regularly in the top 5 in terms of chance creation, assists and all that jazz.

Not 100% sure if you’re serious or not, but if you are, I’ll admit that I kind of like Jonjo, too. If you’re not, then I’m just kidding. 😐

Reports out of Madrid that they’re trying to sign Navas to a 3yr extension.

Also reports that Thibo agreed to personal terms with them a day or two ago.

Basically a lot of the same. Hopefully Thibo sees the writing on the wall that the keeper market is extremely stable with not too many top clubs in the market for a new keeper.

On a more lighthearted note, we’ve all seen a million different Mourinho gifs, but I saw a new one today and it’s fantastic so I thought I’d share.

Don't get me wrong, having attacking football at the Bridge again will probably be fun, but having fans of all the other big clubs hate us because we brought a bus to a football fight is arguably more fun.

Didn't think it would take us this long to get linked with Pulisic but there it is.

I already said it might be best to wait this season out and see which wonderkid explodes, but I can also see why the club wouldn't want to do that.

If these kids are all worth 60mil right now, then after a good season their clubs will be asking for 100 or more.

His play style is the most similar to Hazard of that whole group of wingers, and despite our bad track record with young players we probably have the best playing time situation of the top 6 clubs. Liverpool, United and City all have a ton of wingers, Spurs don't really use them and the one they have (Son) is way better. Not sure Arsenal's winger situation, but at Chelsea he'd basically just have two 30 year olds to compete with.

Not sure if it's the right time for him to make that kind of jump, but at this point it feels like we need a few exciting, attacking signings to help convince Hazard to stay.
