Yeah his follow through scissor tackle was an easy call IMO.

He def on the ball first BUT he didn’t clear it which IMO gave Alonso another chance before he was taken down.

Eden shortened his run-up a lil too. Now that he’s back we won’t see Jorginho’s skip penalty lol.

Jorginho completed more passes than the whole Newcastle team combined. Lol, man they are a hard watch.

The 2nd most passes in a Premier League match ever.

Most completed passes in a Premier League game
        1. Ilkay Gundogan (Man City) v Chelsea (2017-18) 167 passes
        2. Jorginho (Chelsea) v Newcastle (2018-19) 158
        3. Yaya Toure (Man City) v Stoke (2011-12) 157
        =4. Santi Carzorla (Arsenal) v Sunderland (2014-15) 154
        =4. Joel Matip (Liverpool) v Huddersfield (2017-18) 154

Yeah they looked too organized at the back to say that it was a last minute tactical change to accommodate for missing players.

As frustrating as it was, it was a great learning experience for us. We need to play against different systems and approaches

Rumor has it their captain (Lascelles) disagreed with Benitez's tactics for the match, and was subsequently scratched due to an "ankle injury".

I'm not sure that Morata had THAT bad of a game, at least according to a lot of comments I've read elsewhere. He really didn't get much service due to the way Newcastle's defense was set up, and even though Giroud is obviously better in the air, Morata isn't exactly bad. We didn't really try to give him many headers when the quick 1-2 passes weren't unlocking the Newcastle defense.

Anyway, I'd just give him like a 6/10, maybe even a 7. He mostly did what he could with what he was given, but obviously wasn't anything special. A lot of teams will play pretty defensively against us, but maybe only Cardiff will play the way Newcastle did (or worse). Against everybody else, Morata will at the very least have SOME space to do something with, and those games I think will be better to judge him on.

It wasn't that bad but it wasn't good... he was limited. However, he did have a few bad touches in the box where you expect better so for me it's a 6... maybe 6.5.

Well certainly not the most entertaining game but 3 points and a clean sheet is 3 points and a clean sheet.

Bournemouth can be a pain, especially when they are playing one of the big boys because they are champion time-wasters and technical-foulers. Games against Bournemouth always devolve into a bit of a ****fest.

                  Random thoughts:

Pedro definitely showed in this game why he is ahead of Willian right now.

Luiz has not been very good so far tbh, I think Christensen should get a runout. We were lucky a few times that his errors didn't lead to a goal or two. Also, being on the same side as Alonso isn't helping him. If we aren't going to give Christensen a runout, we should at least switch Luiz over to Azpi's side.

Giroud made an instant impact but I'm not entirely sure that means he should start over Morata vs teams that are going to sit back. I think using him as a super-sub is still best even if he is better vs teams that play like that. Morata can tire them out first.

Really want to see CHO get a shot soon, felt like something like Bournemouth at home would have been a good opportunity. Hopefully we get to see him soon.

Ruben quietly had a good game vs Bournemouth. I've been a bit worried that both Kovacic and Barkley would leave him in the dust, but if his performance this weekend is any indication then he might actually be up to the task of fighting for a spot.

Kepa will "surprise" a lot of people. I say that in quotes because lots of fans and pundits seem to be under the impression that this was a panic buy and he doesn't have a very high profile etc. However, Real Madrid has been after him for years, only didn't go for him because of Zidane. He's been starting for a CL/EL club since he was 18, he's definitely the real deal. His skill on the ball is actually exceptional, he just doesn't stand out as much as someone like Alisson because he isn't Brazilian doing fun Brazilian things. If Alisson with literally just one single season of top flight football under his belt at age 25 is being considered a sure thing and one of the top keepers in the world, then I think we are probably in good hands with Kepa.

Just read on Sky Courtois upset that CFC fans turning against him. I will not judge him, you can do this. It's just amazing how often the players crying out loud out when they are playing national team matches, as if they dare open their mouth to later deny, quite pitifully.

By the way pretty cool different third kit

Yeah, it’s largely because he’s so vocal.

If he just quietly went about his business and transferred without making any noise then his stock amongst Chelsea fans would be much higher.

Since he’s been here though, he’s regularly talked about leaving Chelsea, has only briefly touched on the kind of form he was almost always in for Atletico, and has mentioned several times that he’d try to get Hazard to leave with him.

Football fans can be pretty bad, but in this instance a decent amount of the negative attention is directly the player’s doing.

It is early in the season, but I think I was wrong with Sarri and that he will not succeed at CFC. What he requires is 110% support of all and the belief in the project, then he creates success. CFC is not known for patience, but as long as he copes top 4, he will be fine. Starting as CFC manager and the way he was thrown into it, it was great especially how he handled Hazard and more players believe in themselves again (like Luiz either 100+ or- nothing in between). And you play nice football with his virtues in a 4-3-3 positional awareness and technical ability and not least rentless pressing. Just an addition the reason I'm following CFC is because I have a kid (now teenager) who is a huge Blues fan since he was little. Many great memories from the Brigde (-:

Yeah I think the way we have started bodes well.

If we are still winning games and picking up points before we’ve even adapted to his system, then once we fully adapt and hit stride we will be a very difficult team.

I think top 4 isn’t as unlikely for us as others are making it out to be.
