Re: OFFICIAL 2013 MLS SEASON THREAD....

rumors going around of Omar becoming our 3rd DP. I don't really mind. Our stats and win loss record with him in our lineup tell you everything. Also, I think it's great that MLS is retaining our top talent, especially since he's a big part of the usmnt. However, a dp slot in LA is very valuable. The only way I see us doing it is if Donovan doesn't re-sign at season end.

Ideally, I would hope good old Garber steps in and puts in a new dp rule in regards to American talent, where we would still have our usual 3 slots.

I've tried several times over the years, but I just can't get into it. The two teams I could see myself supporting (Portland or Seattle) are too far away and the chances of me making it to a game there are slim to none. Philly is the closest team, but they play in Chester which is a complete dump and I'd rather not risk getting mugged just to see a sporting event. I'll probably start following once NYCFC starts playing because of their ties to City.

I've enjoyed the league a lot more now that I've given up on finding a team to support. The closest team to me is Chicago, and that's quite a haul. I have affinities towards a couple teams, but it seems the matches in MLS are enjoyable no matter who is playing.

Altitude showed a stat that Chivas has allowed 15 goals with 15 minutes to play on the year, and then the Rapids scored one right with about 10 minutes left. This has been a weird game, Chivas had 2 guys sent off, 1 for spitting on a Rapids player and another for a dumb tackle.

Tony Cascio has been sent off for the Rapids, DeShorn Brown missed a penalty and had a great chance to score which he failed to do.

as expected, Omar Gonzalez is our third DP now. Mixed feelings about this but I'm glad he's staying and good for the league.

It would be nice to one day see the majority of our USMNT guys staying home in MLS. Hopefully the Dempsey move and now this starts a trend. Personally, I'm not a big believer in the notion that you MUST play in Europe in order to be a top player. Donovan has done just fine here with the occasional short stint in Europe.

Zusi, Besler, Gonzalez, Evans, Dempsey is a good start.

Really happy to see him signed as the 3rd DP. I would like to see the league add a 4th DP, only if they are a US player (and maybe Capped only).

Would allow teams to spend the money to bring somebody back (Gomez), or allow teams to keep the players they have (Johnson, Gonzalez).

That's actually a really good idea, because you want to give the teams in MLS a chance to bring in top outside talent as well.

that's exactly what I'm thinking. Something tells me Garber will make it happen soon, before the next CBA.

$1.5M is way too much for Gonzo. Talk about overpaying. Always thought he was a bit overrated to be honest.

Eh they might be overpaying but I'm just happy we're able to retain USMNT players.

might be a bit overpaid, but the numbers don't lie with him in our lineup.

You just wanted him out of MLS so the Revs would never have to get through him again

While that would certainly be a plus, I just honestly don't think he's going to improve being a big fish in a smallish pond, so to speak. His game is perfectly suited to the types of forwards in MLS, but he's shown when with the national team he has a lot to work on. Looking at this from a national team fan's perspective, this just feels like him settling IMO.

3 year deal. He's young. In his press conference he said he stayed because he really loves our organization, city and wants to grow the league. He also said he still wants to eventually play in Europe. Who knows? Maybe we sell him early?
