The Sack Race aka Official Management Carousel Thread
Well as much as one could be in his era where Wales was crap.
I suppose the whole missing friendlies thing probably rubbed people the wrong way, but I don't really blame him...Last edited by ImTellinTim; 03-13-2018, 12:54 AM.Comment

His appointment as Wales manager has been wildly unpopular.Comment

I guess I didn't realize that. I thought the disdain was more because he has absolutely no experience as the head manager of anything.Comment

Well the odds on Southampton getting relegated just increased. I mean they were already doomed, but Mark Hughes doesn’t exactly inspire confidence.

Re: The Sack Race aka Official Management Carousel Thread
In another situation, Hughes might be a decent appointment - if he had been out of a job for the year or something. But he just got fired for being in a relegation battle. I'm not sure if the players are going to exactly be filled with confidence in him right off the bat. The fans won't be for sure, so if he doesn't get the players ears immediately, it's going to go south quick.
Southampton has a grip of road matches left in the league. 5 of their 8 are away and two of their home matches are Chelsea and Man City. They could be in big trouble. They are also away to Wigan this weekend in the FA Cup.Last edited by ImTellinTim; 03-13-2018, 12:22 PM.Comment

Re: The Sack Race aka Official Management Carousel Thread
Southampton are usually one of the few Prem clubs outside the top 6 that actually "gamble" on foreign/lesser-known managers too.
Slightly surprised by this one.Comment

I am, but I'm not, I don't know if they can afford to take another gamble at this point, I'd be more surprised if they don't have another new manager at this time next year if Mark Hughes does indeed get hired.Support Local Sports

At least the Saints did the right thing, Mark Hughes is on an 8-game contract.Support Local Sports

Re: The Sack Race aka Official Management Carousel Thread
Unless Soton win 4 or more, I don't see Hughes staying on even if they stay up. Hughes being a stopgap between two very different points allows them greater flexibility in the off-season to adjust to what their situation is. Chances are they want a different manager in the Championship than they do in the Premier League, plus managerial interest changes based on their status as well. While Hughes himself is probably not ideal, as a short-term manager they could do much worse.Support Local Sports

Re: The Sack Race aka Official Management Carousel Thread
They should've made a decision far earlier, but with the situation they put themselves in I don't think this is a horrible decision and that's only because they've given him until the end of the season.
If they stay up, I can see them then finding someone else as they're clearly ready to move on from him in a few weeks. If they go down, they have even more reason to start fresh and bring in someone else.
They made this awful bed they're now in, but at least they're making a sensible decision (as of now) in terms of getting of it.Comment

The Pardiola is Overiola. West Brom and Alan Pardew have parted ways mutually. With as many wins as taxi cabs stolen, it was probably for the best. The question is, which retread will try to lead West Brom out of the Championship next year.Support Local Sports
