The numbers they were putting up in the beginning of the season were definitely unsustainable, regardless of how good they are. Son in particular was putting up Kane-level numbers despite being significantly less clinical.

I wouldn't say their numbers only drop because they are injury prone, Son's numbers drop every season, even Kane usually has a decent streak of non-scoring form each season.

Yeah Son is outperforming his past numbers but part of that is down to him getting better as a player and playing in more central areas as opposed to just the winger Poch had him at .

Kane is Kane. If he plays more than 30 league matches a year he’s going to bag you 20 goals at least.

Yeah Kane is always good for at least 20 goals, it's more the rate they were scoring and assisting per game consecutively that was unsustainable.

To be the top scorer and top assist getter in the same season is remarkable really. It has only ever happened once in Premier league history. Andy Cole in 93/94 for Newcastle. 34 goals and 13 assists.

I heard that trivia today. I would have guessed it was Thierry Henry.

Just checked, Henry's assist record season he was a single goal from sharing the golden boot with van Nistelrooy. Would have been pretty insane to hold both those records within the same season.

It will be interesting to see how close Kane will get to Shearer's PL goal-scoring record of 260. Kane is at 160 now which means he needs to average 20 goals a season for the next five. He's turning 28 in the summer which means he'll need to stay healthy.

I think he falls short of Shearer but he should catch Rooney who's in 2nd with 208 goals.

Honestly, Kane seems like the type of player who will stay around as long as he possibly can to get the record.

Coming off the bench to score a late penalty, or hoping to tap one in late in a game where he can only manage to hobble around for the last 10–15 minutes.

We all know he has the potential to do something like that because the man once swore on his daughter's life in order to further his claim to a goal.

But interesting note—20% of Shearer's were penalties, compared to currently only 15% for Kane. Rooney's is really impressive with only 11% of his goals being penalties.

This plus the limited fixtures the week before feels like an eternity!

Aguero leaving City at the end of the year.

Top 5 PL striker ever. Had he stayed healthy over the years would easily be the 2nd highest scorer of all time in the Prem.

I once heard a football journalist muse about this, and since then I've always thought about it and found it to be very true.

If Aguero wanted to, he would've been a massive star and received even more praise than he did, but he never seemed to want the attention, to be a face of the league, etc. He never seemed to be really interested in improving or learning his English, and compared to some players is far more of a private person.

Basically, it feels like he goes overlooked a bit due to the lack of his overt personality. He just played very, very well, but that's not always enough to be widely praised or noticed. Not overlooked by everyone, but if you asked the average Premier League viewer about some of the best strikers to ever play in the league, I don't know that his name comes up, which is crazy.

I actually wish there were more players like him at his level. Football first, personal brand second. Grumble, grumble, kids these days, oh look a cloud.

Excuse me sir, do you have a moment to talk about Mason Mount?

I would think his name would certainly be up there, especially considering he probably scored the most famous goal in Premier League history.

Still upset Chelsea didn't sign him back in 2010. I think we pulled out because we didn't want to pay his agent $5 mil. Then we ended up spending 50 mil on Fernando the next year.

Always hated when Chelsea played against him, probably not as much as David Luiz though. He tried to break Luiz's leg 2 or 3 times

You mean when a nation-state public relations club beat a soon to be relegated club to win the title?

                              Meh.

I think this is the same of Silva too. They both speak really good English but neither really did interviews in English until their final seasons. I remember seeing a thing aguero did around Christmas 2020 and his English was amazing and it was the first I’d ever seen him speak it confidently, and well.

I’m gonna miss him. I’m a Liverpool fan and he has literally cost us a title but he, along with the likes of Silva, Kompany and Zabaleta represents everything that made City so likeable in the first few years after their rise. Everything after like 2016 is just ehhh.
