ESPN FC provided a good breakdown regarding why a red card was issued. Apparently there was a rule change this year and "first to the ball" doesn't matter like previous years. There was more explanation as to why from Mark Clattenburg, but I was only half-listening lol.

I think they want him to be as bad as they originally predicted he would be, and his exceptional play is getting in the way of them being right.

For me that part that im not sure about is that the Swedish player didn't go in recklessly, he was basically standing still and then cleared it, it only looked like a desperate lunge in the slow motion replay.

It's definitely a hard call. Personally I think the Ukranian player was more reckless for going in at 100% speed when he was never going to win the ball. That play was about half a second from being a foul by the Ukranian player.

Sterling is one of the most mentally strong players I've seen in a long time.

The amount of abuse he suffers and he just goes out and plays, doesn't become dirty or super aggressive etc.

The man is a fantastic role model on top of being a fantastic player.

If England win a major trophy we're honestly just going to have to cancel their internet, possibly forever.

            It's the only reasonable solution.

Edit: Just saw the bracket. England has an actual legit shot to make the final.
We need a breath of new blood. There was zero reason Muller started on this team. Guy hasn’t done anything for years. He wasn’t the guy to retain from the old guard. Same with Kroos I’m sick of guys playing for the sole reason of free kicks. Germany has NEVER been a team on set pieces. They are a possession team. Tactical precise possession with a lethal never miss attitude.. That’s the German way. This is…just not that and as a German American it makes me sick. Oh well. All I can hope now is that England get embarrassed next match. After booing the German Anthem I’m just don’t with them. Zero respect.

Muller had a great season though and considering the options they had up front and at the forward position I can see why. Germany don't have anyone to even somewhat produce Klose or even Mario Gomez's international form. Not sure why Löw insisted on playing Gnabry as a forward and have no clue how Neuhaus and Hoffman don't even get an appearance in this competition. For me I am at least playing a 4-3-3 with this Germany team IMO because their strongest area was their midfield, shame to see Kimmich not utilized there.

I thought Kroos and Mueller were fine, if not good all tournament tbh. Hummels for me has always been overrated and I thought he was poor. Same with Ginter.

I thought Low catered too much of his style to limit his weaknesses instead of playing to his strengths.

You have the worlds best 6 in Kimmich and you play him at RWB so you can accommodate for Gosens and to protect Hummels? You have two of the best wingers in the world in Sane and Gnabry and you drop one and play the other as a False 9?

Everyone knows Southgate is extra cautious and England has a subconscious fear of Germany. I thought he should have attacked England from the start.

Exactly, I would have played Mueller as a false 9 with Gnabry/Werner/Sane on the wing. Midfield of Kroos,Kimmich and Gundogan. Klostermann and Gosin as fullbacks with Hummels and Rudiger. Focus on pressing up front, Macguire and Stones were too comfortable at the back.

Mueller was bad basically just in this game vs England, the bigger issue was playing people out of position and like, bringing on Emre Can when you're chasing a goal in a major knockout round game lmao

Cant say I agree at all with the idea that Müller wasn’t anything but horrible all tournament. Really should not have playing. Kroos was okay, but really nothing to write home about.

But whatever. Germany is in a transition so I didn’t go into the tournament with much hope.

Yann Sommer has been brilliant in the Swiss net.

Spain have missed all of their last 5 penalties they've been given. They better hope they've been practicing

                                Lol Missed again.
