There might be 90 minutes in the game but with a sport that has such tight margins those 5 seconds are vitally important.

Only problem with this is, reckless challenges should be punished regardless of the amount of contact.

If a player makes a wild two-footed lunge at another player, and that player successfully avoids it by jumping over the tackler, the player making the tackle should still get punished.

My problem is that this has already been an issue, and the new initiative just gives refs more cause to ignore it.

I'm not saying Pogba makes a wild two-footed lunge, but I do think people are downplaying the recklessness of the tackle because there wasn't a lot of contact. He went over the top of the ball with his studs directly into another player, its much more luck that Neves wasn't seriously injured than it was "not that bad a tackle".

The hardest part of that argument though is that it takes away any 50/50 challenge. It’s a pro league game being played at the highest tempo in the world. Asking these players to be held to that level of responsibility when it’s a 50/50 ball almost asks the players to back off of every challenge. It’s just a tough spot. If we were talking an 80/20 ball I’m right there too. A split second 50/50? Hard to ask players to know what to do when it’s that quick on a free ball. Both guys go into the challenge knowing the risk there.

Does Ole have enough to overcome that midfield? I think they have everything else apart from a 6 and the manager to come up with tactical adjustments here & there.

No different than hitting in the NFL. Players have to adjust or face the consequences.

I wonder what kind of crazy excuses English media will come up with if United do a tour or camp in the states during Ronaldo’s contract when he doesn’t go with them because of, you know, legal issues.

United has gone to the US just about every summer for quite some time now, would be very interesting if they just didn’t go lol.

Well, I’m not sure that’s a fair comparison. Football didn’t take out guys going for the ball. They got rid of DBs trying to line up a vulnerable receiver to separate him from the ball.

You can’t rid of 50/50 challenges. At least you can’t get rid of the ones that are 46/54-54/46 range. They’ve already gotten rid of the 60/40 ones. At some point though there is a slight grey area when two players. Both have equal rights to go for the ball like the Pogba case.

But anyway, I hate the international break.

Remember when Tanganga was lauded for running around and hacking down City players?

Yeah, knew that would finally catch up to him.

Patrick Vieira still a thorn in Spurs' side.

Nothing like waking up to a Spurs collapse.

Crystal Palace is building a nice fun team with a ton of youngsters.

Joe Willock has to square that ball to Joelinton. What a wasted opportunity.

I don’t think that game could have went any more perfect for Man U. CR does his thing, Bruno does his thing, and Lindgard gets involved. Clean sheet would have been nice I suppose but keeping the momentum going for when they play the likes of Liverpool, City, and Chelsea.
