Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
Arsenal have allowed the fewest shots on target and passes into their penalty area this season. They're also second in progressive passes against, crosses into their penalty area, and passes into their final third (Man City are first in those three).
Still not used to watching an Arsenal defense be so...competent.

Oh! Another! They have the lowest post-shot expected goals against (leading by 4.9). Meaning they don't allow good chances even when they do allow shots.Last edited by Krebstar; 12-24-2023, 10:50 AM.Comment

Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
Now at 2-0 Chelsea are likely losing this, and as the camera showed a dismayed Poch on the touchline I thought about him talking about how they need reinforcements. Beyond the hilarity of the idea of Chelsea spending more, what I'd love to know is what he's been told expectations are.
Is it to get into a European place? Is it to just improve and its expected it will take time and that the biggest goal this season isn't where they finish but how they play and grow? Because if it's the former I kind of get him saying he needs more (whether it's experience or whatever) but if the expectation is truly for them to keep on playing and improving, then dude just work with what you have, you signed up for this and you knew what it was and wasn't.

And now it's 2-1 with plenty of time left...still, draw at best, musings above still apply.Comment

Wolves were begging us to score more than 1 goal basically.
That keeper couldn’t even catch the ball most of the time.

Tbh I kind of have a feeling he was given more lax expectations at first, and then they changed their mind.
Personally I’d be fine with keeping Poch around for a while and letting him grow this team without the trophy expectations. I think most people assumed that was the plan when we bought 36 20 year olds.
The only thing I can say is that some of the older players probably do need to be moved on, and also Jackson is NOT the answer for the striker position.
I’d be fine if we just wanted to try Broja for a while but he doesn’t get many chances.Comment

Was gonna say it’s been a relatively uneventful refereeing day and then they called that Liverpool goal back for a foul by Nunez hahahahaComment

There’s zero transparency so I don’t think anyone knows the actual expectations, but I think either way he was always in a difficult position.

Do we still own Boss Barkley?
We need him to do a job in midfield for us with everyone hurt [emoji23].
He’s outplayed a lot of midfields recently

Maybe he’s like Adebayor where you need to put him on 6 month contracts to get max performance out of him.Comment

I honestly didn't think Iraola would last after Bournemouth's atrocious start to the season. They have stuck with him and they currently are in 10th! 19 points from a possible 21 is incredible. And 12 league goals from Dominic Solanke. Never thought he'd make it at the top level but he's turning into a pretty decent number 9.Comment

Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
When Burnley get relegated, someone looking for a keeper should be going hard after James Trafford. Without him I doubt Burnley would have much more than 3 points right now. Him and Paul Tierney teamed up to keep that one respectable.Comment
