Inexcusable draw. Have to finish a 4 on 1. Oh well, still half a season to go.Comment

1-1 probably fair on the balance of play but really should have been Liverpools game. Arsenals forwards were shockingly poor, I think that could have gone another 2 hours and they wouldn’t score.
Though I guess all forwards outside Salah weren’t great.Comment

I don’t think “2nd half City” is showing up this year magically, Brav. They are really missing Gundogan and Mahrez who would score and create so many clutch goals for them.Comment

Just watched the Forest/Bournemouth highlights. Never a second yellow card for Willy Boly. They need to change that rule where VAR cannot intervene when a second yellow is brandished. Terrible decision which altered the game.Comment

Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
Trying to get through the defense, or get into the Arsenal box is not something that's done often.
So, while Arsenal's attack again wasn't offering much (the xG rigthly suggests changes were even), trying to score multiple goals against their defense can happen, but not when things are clicking like they were today.
Holding Liverpool to a single goal at home is a solid continuation after entirely nullifying Brighton last week.Last edited by Krebstar; 12-23-2023, 04:51 PM.Comment

Liverpool should have taken control of the match early in the 2nd half when Arsenal were giving away the ball for fun. That Kruyff turn by Zinchenko was comedy.Comment

The Arsenal defense didn't give them much, and as they've shown many times this season the best way to score against them is an individual error. To me, that error as a whole was Zinchenko's poor positioning in relation to the rest of the line on the pass, and then his poor defending after the pass.

I agree…other than Trent’s missed shot on the 4v1 which was very unfortunate because the Anfield pitch made that ball pop up at the last second, I thought Arsenal were the better side and controlled more of the match, which was evident seeing as though Liverpools only chances came off counters.
I didn’t think Martinelli played well at all but Gakpo and Diaz were missing and even Salah wasn’t great apart from the goal. For a player of his ability he should have worked Sanchez on that first shot.
In the end it was Liverpool holding on while Arsenal were looking for the winner.
Very very entertaining game for the neutrals though

Re: 2023–2024 English Football Thread
This might be confusing to anyone who didn’t read the article.
Under OGS’ team, United valued Antony at £25m and would not pay more than £60m.
United’s current setup was pushed by van der Sar as much as possible due to already selling other first-team players. The fact that he got a desperate United up to £86m is hilarious, and some of the blame for United has to go to ten Hag.
He wanted the player and was pushing for reinforcements. He didn’t make the call in the money, but he absolutely wanted Antony.
Going back to this because Brahv & I were discussing Kane vs Mbappe in the other thread but the point about not being able to afford Kane or even inquiring because of FFP due to the Antony and Hojland deals was fantastic.
All the players United have gotten from Spurs dating to Shearingham, Carrick, Berbatov, etc… and they couldn’t get the best of the lot despite badly needing a CF makes me so happy.

Nonetheless, Bournemouth are on a killer run right now. 5-1-0 in their last 6 Premier League games (not counting the abandoned Luton).Comment

Also once again, nobody including the officials knows what is a handball anymore.
Like, Odegard slips obviously, but Salah about 47x faster than him and that handball pretty clearly prevents a 1v1 with the keeper.
At this point the PGMOL needs to explain these kinds of things to the fans, because currently we have BOTH a lack of consistency as well as a lack of transparency.
Personally I think that should be a pen every time, saying this as someone who has spent way more time hating Liverpool than Arsenal.
But again, we don’t actually know because they are just making it up as they go seemingly.Comment

I don’t actively hate them like Spurs or Barca, but it just always feels right.
Post-Fergie United imo is proof they really did make a deal with the devil to get Sir Alex.Comment
