Re: The Transfer Thread
He doesn't read these forums I don't think. He's not going to hang out with you if you keep saying nice things about him over and over again like this.
Personally I shy away from rooting for people that throw child-like tantrums when they don't get their way and then refuse to play for the club that gave them their big chance until they do, in fact, get their way.
Clint Dempsey is a kid sitting on the floor at Toys R Us crying because his parents won't buy him a toy. Then his parents finally relented and bought him the toy to shut him up and he realized the toy is too complicated for him to play with, so now he wants a toy that's simpler to play with so he can feel good about himself again.
I realize this kind of behavior is more common in international club soccer than it is in American sports for whatever reason, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.Last edited by Bellsprout; 08-02-2013, 10:36 PM.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: The Transfer Thread
No clue how people can still believe those "Dempsey refusing to play and throwing a tantrum" stories were anything but stories.
Especially when they were proven false literally weeks after his transfer.Comment

I'm not sure, maybe playing professionally a little bit myself I know that it's not only about Clint Dempsey. I had to leave the game because I had received death threats in Indonesia for being American - but I looked like a coward to the club; I never frickin told anyone there - why does that matter - maybe I was young (19) and wanted to live more.
So in Dempsey's case, maybe It's a lot more - it's his wife, kids - etc. Who knows. Maybe he knew he was turning 30 soon and wanted a change before the game would get ahead of him. I don't know. I'm not judging. Who the heck am I to judge anything? I'm not at his house everyday - I'm not the one listening to the phone conversations between Levy and his agent - who cares.
You want to judge him, go ahead - do it - shy away - fine, good for you. Want to get more likes from your post that belittles myself and Clint Dempsey - great, congrats - hope you sleep better at night.
All I have to say is there is a lot more than just one person in these decisions. Deuce, I believe, is at that point. There's been no mention of his kids or his wife - even though that is usually the most important things not only a footballer has to decide in his life; but a man.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Wasnt it just Dempsey who said it wasnt true? I think it was a tweet or something?
Found it, ‘There are two sides to the story’, and ‘The truth will come out soon.’
Even more from the Daily Mail
‘Clint told everyone he was going to Liverpool before he came back so we really thought there was quite a firm interest in him.
‘Even Brendan Rodgers told everyone he was interested in Clint Dempsey, but our people never had an offer. It is almost embarrassing.
‘Clint wants to move. He doesn’t want to commit to this club and, while I would like to keep him, it’s impossible.
‘He told me that he wants to go to a Champions League club.’Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Refusing to play, telling the club you no longer want to play for them and forcing a sale because you don't feel "valued and appreciated" and want Champions League football (Guess that was bull****. Must have just been about money.), tomato tomahto.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

I'm happy for the move - but it's a bittersweet move for me. I liked seeing Deuce in the Prem; but at least there are other American players to watch there. Now I'll have to check in on Seattle games online probably :/Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
Except he never refused to play. The club (Fulham) was who decided to have him remain in London and train with the U21's.Comment

Re: The Transfer Thread
You going to put the guy out there that you've been forced into selling so he can get injured?
It's semantics. His actions forced them into that spot. Okay, he may not have refused, but he gave them absolutely no choice.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Re: The Transfer Thread
You gonna put the guy out there that flat-out tells you he doesn't want to play for you anymore?

I didn't realize it was wrong to give the player the benefit of the doubt. As much as some people like to think, there's no loyalty in soccer. Players do what's best for them, and why shouldn't they? They're people and have families, just like we do.
And for all we know, Fulham knew they had a big asset they could cash in on, but didn't want to draw the ire of their fans for selling their best player, so they played their part in making a the whole thing an ordeal. Of course you wouldn't risk him getting injured which would derail a decent transfer from going through.Last edited by Bruins; 08-02-2013, 11:42 PM.Comment

Jol:
"From the first day he came back from holiday he didn't want to play here. He wanted to move so of course you can force the issue and then come up with things."
Whatever. I don't like him, you guys do, we're never going to agree on this so probably best to just agree to disagree.Member: OS Uni Snob Association | Twitter: @MyNameIsJesseG | #WT4M | #WatchTheWorldBurn

Another key component that we haven't mentioned is that Martin Jol is kind of a dick.Comment

With that said:
UPDATE, FRIDAY, AUG. 2, 2013, 9:12 P.M. ET The Seattle Sounders have signed Clint Dempsey from Tottenham Hotspur for $9 million, sources have confirmed to SB Nation , confirming an earlier report from ESPN FC ...
I'm hoping Seattle thing isn't true - just 'cause I want more Prem for Deuce - but chances are it's going to happen.Comment
