That'd be hilarious if the deal didn't go through.

Is it just me, or has this been the most entertaining start to a season, ever.

So it seems as if the deal didn't go through. De Gea stays in Manchester.

De Gea's contract ends June-16', so he will be free to sign a pre-contract in January and leave for free six months later. I'd send a truck loaded with money to make him renew his contract, otherwise they will end up with no goalkeeper and no money.

I hope he's pissed at United, pouts on the bench for 4 months, then signs a pre-contract with Madrid on Jan 1.

United don't need the money. However this transfer turns out, the only way United come out losers is if we sell De Gea at a low price, which isn't happening now. If he wants to leave on a free, cool. If he wants to renew on bigger wages and then get a transfer next year, better!

Real Madrid might have a transfer ban for 2016 as well, so either way, United got one over Madrid and I'm happy.

Not worried. Current stories going around is that De Gea will be first-choice to play and he's gonna be professional about this whole thing. If his head is on straight, wonderful! If not, then we roll the dice with Romero who's been okay thus far.

This also allows us to find a proper replacement for De Gea.

Seriously, if Madrid wanted him so badly, they should've ponied up the dough a long time ago. They preferred to leave it late and tried to concoct this deadline day big money signing and it backfired. We know (and De Gea knows) we love our goalkeeper; Navas knows Madrid don't feel the same way.

Chelsea got their young, English center back. Michael Hector from Reading for £4 million - loaned back to Reading for the rest of the season.

Isn't there a roster size limit? Or is that only for active players on your roster.

I'm strangely okay with the De Gea situation. Mostly because it'll keep this whole LVG sideshow going. And at least De Gea will stay somewhat sharp playing for Spain here and there, lol.

I get it. So, if he isn't cool with playing for a team that dropped him from the squad as revenge for having the gall to want to leave Man U then his head isn't on straight. Okay.

I just figure he could use the rest from carrying that team last season.

Any objective United fan knows De Gea leaving is only a matter of when, not if. We get that his family is there, his girlfriend is there and Spain just simply offers better weather. We appreciate the fact that he hasn't whined about anything and has been professional to the utmost degree.

Personally, I'd rather he played since the start of the season. Since we don't know what happens behind-the-scenes though, we have to take the word of the coaching staff that he hasn't been focused on being a United player and is thus a liability. Now that the transfer window is shut, hopefully all parties can move on (until the next one). We honoured Ronaldo's wishes when his dream move was Madrid -- albeit by SAF convincing him to stay another year and signing a new contract for a better fee -- and I have no reason to think United will not do so again if De Gea's wishes are in Madrid.

On a different note - De Gea has to perform for us because the Euros are coming up. It doesn't do him any good to pout (if he so desires) when taking that no. 1 spot for Spain is as ripe as it has ever been.

Here's each club's statements on the matter. You decide who you want to blame.

                                MUFC
                                Real Madrid

                                Edit:
                                1. Of course Madrid had a 10-point statement first. Rafa manages them.
                                2. If you think Madrid are a victim in all this, here's a 2011 Torres I'd like to sell you.
                                3.
The fact that Manchester United filed the papers on time was acknowledged by the Football Association, who offered to support that claim in any discussions with FIFA. The Club offered this assistance, as well as its own timestamped documents to Real Madrid but they have chosen not to go down this route.
                                4. They don't really want you Dave. 30m is peanuts to them, but they wanted the drama of the galactico coming at the last minute.
                                5. Much as I respect the history between the two clubs, well, it's always nice to give this to Madrid.
