    Re: The Transfer Thread

His girlfriend is there, his family is there and Spain has better weather.

Surely those aren't the only reasons for DDG to leave?

It's ok to say it dude: RM are a much better team.

I don't care who is at fault in the DDG debacle. I just think the whole thing is hilarious. Because he wont sign an extension, and on January first he will just sign with them for free.

I still can't get over the price paid for Martial. That is an absolute joke. The kid has promise no doubt. But not that much.

Those are his primary, personal reasons for wanting to go back -- except the weather part, since he's really loved that Manchester weather. That's been the story since this whole thing started a year ago.

Sure, Madrid are currently a better team. That doesn't make it the driving factor in this whole saga.

Currently a better team? You say that as if you expect that to change. There isn't a single club out there right now that looks even remotely close to cracking that trio (Barca, Bayern, Real).

It may not be THE driving force behind the transfer, but don't pretend that RM isn't a pretty big upgrade from your team in terms of winning things.

Change this year? Probably not. Within the next 3, I'm damn well sure that's what United's aims are. Football is, after all, a cycle.

As for your second point, comparing the trophy haul of the two clubs the past 10 years (domestic and international):

                  MUFC - 15
                  Real Madrid - 10

Because United are coming at the end of their golden period. Madrid have still won several titles and a champions league in what has been a dark time for them. They're so far ahead of United it isn't even worth debating.

Doesn't take long for perceptions to change, tho. Nobody right now cares how good Man U were even just 2-3 years ago, let alone 8-10. Didn't impress De Gea enough to want to stay a little longer. Which, really, he's still young enough that he could have waited a few more years for RM if he loved ManU THAT much.

Thing is, despite the trophy count, even when you guys were at your peak RM was still able to take your best players.

You are mixed up a bit. The sport itself and success within it is cyclical, like the CL. But the thing that doesn't change is that the very best players will always go to those three teams first, everybody else second.

Also, 3 years? You think that in 3 short years your club will be able to complete the overhaul, regain relevance, change managers, and then magically be on the same level as Barcelona and Real Madrid?

Madrid doesn't want him THAT much. And really, you guys will discount the pull of his hot girlfriend wanting him to move back to Spain and his family being there? You guys trying to make it sound like De Gea simply wants to leave because his current club sucks (according to the ABUs).

I'm not even going to bother with the whole "players will go to RM, Barca" first argument. And really, Bayern? They're not in that conversation when it comes to "aura." It's usually been Madrid, Barca & United in whatever order you choose but really, it's 1. money 2. everything else

Madrid got our best players how? Ronaldo's dream club had always been Madrid. Beckham was sold to them after falling-out with SAF. De Gea's hometown is (Atletico) Madrid -- but his home is still Manchester.

LvG begun the process (not magic) last year and is rebuilding the foundation. We're on year 2 out of his 3 and the club's aims have always been to get back in that mix of European elite by the end of LvG's run. It's just a matter of whether LvG extends or someone else continues the project.

"Regain relevance" Anyway, I'm done with the United slander on this thread. Transfer season is over.

LVG could burn down old trafford and i think Leon would still praise it as a great move and call any statement that didn't agree with that "slander"

So, you're basically framing it that it's just bad luck that Man U can't keep him. If only his girlfriend and family weren't so pushy. I guess that's less frustrating to deal with than the fact that the team isn't as glamorous or elite as it once was. Well, at least they aren't AC Milan.

I just wish we didn't have to wait so long for the DDG/LVG reunion.

LVG won't extend, he explicitly said so, and if you honestly think Bayern isn't one of the big 3 right now (and firmly ahead of United) then you are even more biased than I previously thought you were. Which was a LOT. Have you been watching CL long? Bayern have been a consistent contenders for a very long time (they have more CL titles than United does).

Anyway, I've no doubt you guys will get back near the top in some capacity, you have too much money to fail. But it looks to be a while before anybody cracks that top 3, and doing so while changing coaches and demolishing 25 years worth of culture is a pretty big ask.
