I don’t think they need him either but he’s a HUGE upgrade on Bernardo Silva who couldn’t fill David Silva’s shoes and is on his way out. I think he’ll get those Silva touches and he might be a better finish than him although to me, Silva is one of the best ever imports to the EPL.

Maybe the argument is that Foden could play that role but Pep likes him out wide for City and he kills it out there. He also plays that False 9.

I liken it to great NBA players adapting their game to play with other greats during the Olympics. Sure there #’s might take a hit but they’re still going to be there and have those odd great games here & there because you won’t be able to send 2 or 3 bodies their way.

He’s 27 going on 53 and he’s made of porcelain. And he’s not Haaland. No thanks.

Hold up. I thought Messi had already signed his new contract, but now there’s more drama?

He never signed it…and now it sounds like his contract has expired and he’s leaving

Yeah Fabrizio Romano is reporting that he's done with Barca.

There were some rumblings about La Liga rejecting Messi's new proposed contract with Barca but I'm not sure how that dynamic works (a league not approving a contract).

This sounds very suspect. Barca trying to pressure La Liga? Not a single player wishing him well and goodbye?

                Not buying it.

Grealish being a ‘HUGE’ improvement on Bernardo isn’t right in my eyes.

Grealish has two seasons as a starter in the top flight. He is a very good player but Bernardo was one of the best players in a team that got 198 points in two years.

Silva probably hasn’t pushed on as much as he should have but there was genuine POTY talk for him the other year. Grealish has never had that aside from a few ‘narrative’ mentions because he was doing well in a team that overachieved.

Good signing for City but he doesn’t add much to them, they’re still going into this season without a world class striker, unless they plan on using De Bruyne in a false nine again, where you lose so much of his effectiveness.

                      What?

POTY talks from Bernardo Silva? Naa man, not even close to sniffing POTY within his own team. With all due respect Bernardo was subpar last year, even bad by expectations which is why Pep dropped him A LOT. His goal contributions have been going down since his 18/19 year which was when folks, myself included, thought he would be able to replace David Silva. Hell I had him the last two years in our fantasy league and his performances weren't good at all. I know fantasy isn't the end all be all but in general if you're putting in quality performances as an attacker your stats will reflect it.

I just can't get behind the narrative that a player that pretty much carried an entire club on his back for years, entering his prime, with future tutelage from from one of the best developers of talent isn't a major signing and warning shot sent to the rest of the league.

There was like a 6 month period where he was one of the first guys on the team sheet, but he hasn’t been able to put an entire season of good form together. There are times where he’s one of the most dynamic guys on the pitch (end of last season), and others where he’s not really noticeable out there. I’ve always been a huge fan of his but his chances of being a full-time regular at City are near zero at this point.

Exciting and surprising to see Messi leaving. Figured he would just cave and stay there forever. Glad I was wrong.

                            Re: The Transfer Thread

Silva LITERALLY won City’s player of the year in 18-19, made PFA TOTY, was top 10 in Balon d’Or voting and won Nations League POTT.

All this while Grealish was in the Championship.

For all the talk of him carrying a team on his back he was a malfunctioning goal line technology incident away from being relegated back there.

I don’t even like Silva but his breakthrough came in a Monaco team that toppled a dominant PSG. Yes he had great players next to him but he was a star in that team. He was a star for City early on until they signed Mahrez (top development coach Pep signing the finished article again).

I just think this idea that because Grealish looks incredible for a mid table team he’s gonna elevate City. He’s not because now he’s just one of a group of good players. This whole thing screams Coutinho.

                              Re: The Transfer Thread

If I'm reading this right, it seems this Messi thing is more about a pissing contest between Barca and La Liga. Barca and Messi agreed to a deal with the idea that they could get La Liga to give them some leniency with their internal version of FFP as Barca would argue that having Messi in La Liga is a boost for the entire league. La Liga said no and wouldn't let them register the contract. Barca then called what they believe is La Liga's bluff and said Messi is leaving. There is also still bad blood between La Liga and Barca (and Real for that matter) about the Super League and CVC investment company.

You would think cooler heads would prevail and La Liga and Barca could come to agreement that would bury the hatchet and settle all of this. At this point it seems like Messi will end up at PSG and everyone will look like petty fools. Does Barca then renege on the Sergio Agüero signing, as it was largely to appease Messi?
