WASHINGTON CALLS UP ROOKIE NETMINDER, SENDS DOWN FEHR

Arlington, VA - Before the season starts, the Capitals have decided to roll the dice with phenom prospect goalie Simeon Varlamov. After posting a 2.45 Goals Against Average and 3 shutouts in 44 games in the Russian Super League in 2007, Capitals GM George McPhee felt it was time to allow "Varly" to gain some very valuable experience in the NHL.

Brent Johnson, the Caps former back-up goaltender, will be scratched from tonight's game against the Atlanta Thrashers. He will remain on the roster for the time being, although it is believe the Caps are shopping either him or starter Jose Theodore actively.

RW Eric Fehr was sent to Hershey in a related move until a roster spot can be cleared for him.
