Kings Lose Frolov, MacGrattan To Injury

(Los Angeles, CA)The Los Angeles Kings have confirmed wingers Alexander Frolov and
Brian Macgrattan will be out of action for at least 5 weeks as they
have been placed on the injury list.

Frolov has been diagnosed with a groin pull and is being evaluated day
by day by team doctors.

Macgrattan suffered an elbow injury and will undergo surgery to repair
the damage after going into the boards during the Kings 5-2 win over
the Dallas Stars.

"These injuries have hit us hard" said GM Dean Lombardi. "Both Frolov
and MacGrattan are very important to us in their own ways and it's
unfortunate that we lose them at the same time but we have to regain
our composure and keep going."

Rookie Trevor Pollock was called up a few games ago to replace Frolov
on the third line and Trevor Lewis was called up and began his stint
with the Kings against the Phoenix Coyotes on the 24th.

So far, both players have not registered a single point with Los Angeles.

Thornton Hat-trick Seals Comeback Win Over L.A.

10/28/09

Devin Setoguchi celebrates his goal over the Los Angeles Kings.

(San Jose, CA) - The Los Angeles took an early lead over the San Jose Sharks, but let off during the later periods and allowed Joe Thornton to lead the Sharks with a hat-trick to a 4-1 win.

Justin Williams scored at 1:31 of the first period for his third goal of the season.

Anze Kopitar and Jack Johnson earned the assists on the goal, giving the Kings a 1-0 lead.

But the Sharks came back in the second period with Joe Thornton scoring his first goal of the night on a powerplay opportunity at 12:31 to tie the game up.

He scored once again in the third period as Jonathan Quick allowed two successive goals in the beginning with 36 seconds on the clock, then later at 1:14.

With a 3-1 lead, the Sharks were looking confident in taking the win, although some sparks from Los Angeles seemed to put that in danger.

Rookie Trevor Pollock was the aggressor during the third period, going after every puck and making sure every save Evgeni Nabokov made was a tough one. Although he hasn't scored a goal or registered a single point, Pollock is earning his playing time with his hard working performance.

The Sharks continued their scoring run, this time with Devin Setoguchi scoring late in the period at 19:48 for a 4-1 lead and went on to win the game over the Los Angeles Kings.

After the loss, Kings head coach Terry Murray said he would talk to the coaching staff on whether or not Jonathan Quick should be given a few days off to rest. Erik Ersberg has been rumored to finally earn his first start but it has not been confirmed.

In the last six games, Quick has a record of 3-3.

Ersberg Debuts With Win Over Canucks

Jarret Stoll scores his sixth goal of the season against Vancouver's Roberto Luongo.

(Los Angeles, CA) - Erik Ersberg made his first start of the season tonight, as the Los Angeles Kings hosted the Vancouver Canucks in front of a sold out crowd at the Staples Center.

Kings regular starter, Jonathan Quick, was given the next few games off to rest after starting every game since the beginning of the 09/10 season.

"We wanted to give Quick some well earned time off to rest" said coach Terry Murray. "He's played very well for us, and we just felt it was time to give him some rest and have Erik come in and play a few games for us."

Ersberg made well of his first start this season as he only had to make eight saves as the Kings dropped the Canucks, 4-2.

Known for his defensive skills rather than his slap shot on the blue line, Rob Scuderi scored for the Kings to take the 1-0 lead in his first goal of the season and in a Kings uniform at 9:06.

Jarret Stoll and Dion Phaneuf earned the assists on Scuderi's goal that held the lead into the second period.

Vancouver came back early in the second as Henrik Sedin scored at 2:17 to tie the game up at 1-1, which held the game until the third period.

Defenseman Drew Doughty regained the lead for the Kings at 2:34, with his fifth goal of the year with Anze Kopitar and Jack Johnson earning the assists for the 2-1 lead.

Jarret Stoll added his own goal, number six of the season, at 16:04 on an unassisted play as he took the puck from Vancouver defenseman Willie Mitchell and made Roberto Luongo look the wrong way as he slipped it past him for the 3-1 lead.

But Vancouver cut the lead late in the third period as Doug Murray scored for the 3-2 score, giving the Canucks a fighting chance and an opportunity to pull their goaltender for the extra attacker.

Unable to crack the defensive shell Los Angeles had in the final seconds, Vancouver coughed up the puck and allowed for an odd man rush on the empty net, with Ryan Smyth capitalizing on it with his second goal of the season for the 4-2 score and the win, as Jack Johnson and Drew Doughty earned the assists and second point of the game for each.

In his first start, Erik Ersberg impressed and will play against the Phoenix Coyotes. The last two meetings between the Kings and Coyotes have gone in favor of Phoenix and they will hope to turn that around.

Brendl, Smyth Power Kings Past Coyotes

11/2/09

(Phoenix, AZ) - In only his second start of the season, Kings goaltender Erik Ersberg was the difference as Los Angeles came away with a 4-2 win over the Phoenix Coyotes

In the last two meetings between the division rivals, the Coyotes have come out with the wins in both games until tonight.

"I don't think it was the change we made in goal that won the game for us" said captain Dustin Brown, "It was just an all around better effort tonight compared to our previous games against this team."

Los Angeles went down early in the second period as Shane Doan scored on the powerplay with 42 seconds on the clock for the 1-0 lead.

But Pavel Brendl scored back to back goals late in the second period, the first at 18:37 for his seventh goal of the year, and followed by number eight at 19:58 for the 2-1 lead in favor of Los Angeles.

Shane Doan once again scored with 42 seconds on the clock to tie the game back up at 2-2 at the start of the third period.

The Kings came back and regained the lead at the five minute mark, as Ryan Smyth scored his third goal of the year, on the powerplay for the 3-2 lead.

Jarret Stoll added his seventh of the year at 19:41 as the Los Angeles Kings took a 4-2 win from the Coyotes, the first win over their division rivals.

Kings goaltender Erik Ersberg made 10 saves during the game, while Ilja Bryzgalov made 15 saves for Phoenix.

Kings Suffer OT Loss Against Pens

11/5/09

[b](Los Angeles, CA) -- Facing the defending Stanley Cup champions isn't always an easy game. Especially when the defending champs have players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Marc-Andre Fleury, just to name a few.

The Los Angeles Kings knew they had a tough game ahead of them and were ready to face the Pittsburgh Penguins, even if they were the defending champs.

Kings captain Dustin Brown spoke about the advantage the Penguins had coming in, saying "They have no advantage. They won last year but that was last year and we've played pretty well as of late so we don't see them as a problem being the defending champs."

Dustin Brown looked to eat his words after the first period, as Pittsburgh took a 2-0 lead, with Ruslan Fedotenko scoring for the Pens at 7:33 with Evgeni Malkin earning his first point of the night.

He was followed by Jordan Staal late in the period at 18:21 for the 2-0 advantage on a powerplay goal.

But the Kings came back with Pavel Brendl breaking the shutout run of Marc-Andre Fleury at 4:23 for his ninth goal of the season and the deficit now 2-1.

Los Angeles came back in the third period to tie the game up, this time with captain Dustin Brown netting his second of the year at 16:34 with Dion Phaneuf and Rob Scuderi earning the assists.

During the final minutes of the third period, Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi blocked a shot from former team mate Brooks Orpik, hitting him in the leg and leaving him on the ice for a few seconds. He was helped off the ice but was able to return to the bench for the overtime period.

But 2:51 into the overtime period, Evgeni Malkin ended the game after scoring on a rebound shot from Kris Letang, after bouncing off the leg pad of Kings goaltender Erik Ersberg for the 3-2 win.

Head coach Terry Murray was asked about the injury to Scuderi during the game. "Right now, we haven't done any tests of assessed the damage. We will look into any problems that he may have and then see what we need to do."

The Los Angeles Kings will hope to avenge this defeat during their next game against the Nashville Predators.

Scuderi out with broken leg

(Los Angeles, CA) - The Los Angeles Kings have been hit with another setback as coach Terry Murray announced defenseman Rob Scuderi will miss about six weeks of action with a broken leg.

Scuderi was taken off the ice during the Kings 3-2 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins after blocking a shot which hit him in the left leg.

"Rob has been a big part of our defensive side of the game and losing him is a tough blow for us" said Murray. "But right now, we have to move on and see what changes we need to make so we can keep winning games."

During a phone interview, Rob Scuderi spoke about the injury and the effect it will have on the team. "When I first took the shot, i didn't feel any pain in my leg, but it hit me a few seconds later and I fell to the floor" he said. "The team doctors did all the tests and exams right after the game and they told me the news and here we are now. I think the team will manage through without any problems for the next games."

The Kings also announced rookie defenseman Bryan Byrne has been called up from the Manchester Monarchs and will join the team in Los Angeles as they host the Nashville Predators.

Byrne will be the second player of the 2009 NHL Draft class that joins Los Angeles, the first to join was Trevor Pollock.

The Ottawa born defenseman will join the Kings after only playing 14 games with Manchester and earning one goal and seven assists for eight points.
