Breaking News!

-GM Scott Howson was fired today after being arrested for a DWI incident last night. The Blue Jackets are in shock with the start of preseason only 2 days away. The Blue Jackets owner then announced they have hired Hall of Fame Defenseman Paul Coffey as thier new GM. Coffey was not available for comment as he was flying in to finish signing his contract and will need to work with the team right away.

"Path to Glory Magazine" Interview:
New GM P.Coffey answers a few questions

Mag- What do you think of the makeup of the roster you have inherited so far and thru the preseason?

Well to be honest I have only gotten as much a look as you can thru one preseason. The NHL roster has its strenghts and weaknesses so far but I'm going to need some regular season games to see how well everyone performs. We know Nash is a fan favorite but one stipulation when I took the job was I have free reign over this roster and no one is untouchable.
The previous GM has tied alot of money up in three players R.Nash, J.Carter, and J.wisnewski are signed to long term contracts. If this team doesn't perform than they might need to go so we can free up space to rebuild.

Mag- What do you think of the Defense?

Well the defense is solid in the defensive side but we are lacking speed, athleticism and any offensive threat from the point. I will be looking to upgrade the defense ASAP. Martinek and Lebda have been disappointing in the preseason and got beat by speedy wingers so they are on the block to start the season but if they improve during the season they will be taken off the block.

Mag- What changes if any will you make on the offensive side?

Besides Carter and Nash the offensive side is a big question mark as to where the offense will come from. C. D.Brassard will get his chance this season to make a huge impact. Looking thru the roster the wings have too many TWF and GRN types so I will look to balance the fowards and add more snipers and playmakers as I want a very fast athletic club not a slow bunch of goons.

Mag- Is the goalie situation solid?

Yes the goalie situation is pretty solid with S.Mason only being 23 yrs old he will still be getting better and C.Sanford is a solid vet to teach Chris and to relive him now and then so he is fresh for a playoff run.
I would also like to announce an exclusive right now that we have signed free agent G T.Sexsmith and add him to the AHL roster. I was suprised as this young G was still available and we couldnt pass up the chance to add some depth to our AHL roster.
