New York Rangers (NHL 12)

Hey everybody. So I haven't posted a chise on here in a while, but I've had one going for my Rangers on another site and decided I'd post it here. I've only been doing 20 game updates for this season, but if I manage to get into the playoffs (looking pretty likely right now) and the next season I may go to my usual in-depth game by game updates.

I prefer to play every game--I feel like I lose control of the dynasty if I sim any games. I may occasionally change around my sliders--as the Rangers, I'm expecting to do very well, but not 60 wins and 300 goals.

The New York Rangers, after nearly two months, are currently sitting in a playoff position and have a slightly above .500 record, in spite of an underperforming star.

Henrik Lundqvist has been a major disappointment so far. Although his stats are respectable, he has given up soft goals at crucial points in games, singlehandedly leading to losses versus Anaheim, Carolina, Washington and a shootout loss to Philadelphia. Backup goaltender Martin Biron has not been much better, recording a shutout in one appearance, but playing mediocre in another and getting pulled in a third.

Defensively, the first pairing of Marc Staal (who is nursing a small injury) and Dan Girardi have done an adequate job of shutting down opposing top lines. Michael Sauer has been a clutch performer in many games, and Michael Del Zotto and Anton Stralman have stepped up as huge players in many games, boasting a combined plus-minus of +19. The one disappointment has been Ryan McDonagh, who had a slow start but has improved since being demoted to the third pairing with MDZ.

On offense, Marian Gaborik has rebounded from an abysmal 2010-11 season and is second in the league in goals. He and newly acquired Center Brad Richards are spearheading the team's attack, which has also seen success from all around. Captain Ryan Callahan has put up decent numbers, and Derek Stepan has been fantastic, recording 14 assists in 20 games so far. Mats Zuccarello has seemed to be the perfect fit with Gaborik and Richards, posting a league-leading +16 rating. Rookies Chris Kreider and Carl Hagelin have been impressive, with Kreider scoring 7 goals and Hagelin scoring 4 goals and 6 assists. Brandon Dubinsky, who is currently injured with a neck strain, has been underperforming, scoring only 3 goals in 18 games played. As well, the fourth line of Ruslan Fedotenko, Brian Boyle and Brandon Prust have been unimpressive, recording a combined 11 points and 5 goals. Boyle has been promoted in Dubinsky's absence, and will look to capitalize on that opportunity.

Overall, the Rangers are playing decent hockey, but falling victim to careless plays, which opposing teams are quick to capitalize on. Henrik Lundqvist must improve his game if this team plans to compete in the ever-difficult Atlantic Division.

After 20 games, Henrik Lundqvist was a disappointing aspect of a struggling team. Now, he's the centerpiece of the best team in the Eastern Conference.

Lowering his Goals Against Average by a tenth of a goal per game, Henrik has recorded four shutouts so far this season and leads the NHL with 24 wins. His GAA is good for third in the league, while his Save Percentage is still lagging behind other top netminders.

Michael Del Zotto has recovered from his sophomore slump, leading the team's defensemen with 19 points as well as boasting a +17 rating. Anton Stralman, Dan Girardi, Marc Staal and Michael Sauer all also have ratings above +10. Ryan McDonagh has improved from his early struggles, but has yet to score a goal through the first half of the season.

Marian Gaborik leads the team with 40 points, due in large part to his league-leading 27 goals, five of which have come on the Power Play. Center Brad Richards leads the team in assists with 23, followed closely by Derek Stepan. The Captain, Ryan Callahan, has 18 goals and 15 assists on the season, despite missing four contests. Rookies Chris Kreider and Carl Hagelin have combined for 20 goals and 26 assists, and Mats Zuccarello leads the NHL with a whopping +26 Plus-Minus rating. Disappointments include Brandon Dubinsky, who has 18 points in 30 games, and Ruslan Fedotenko, who has only recorded 6 points in as many games, albeit with fewer minutes of ice time.

The Rangers have found their groove recently, with a season-best 7-game winning streak which culminated in a win on the NHL's biggest regular season stage: the Winter Classic on January 2nd versus the Philadelphia Flyers. If they can continue this style of play, they will almost assuredly be playing come April.

Cool man. Good read. I've actually really grown to like the Rangers with the playoffs. I really like Kreider, McDonough, Hagelin and Lundqvist. I'm assuming you're a fan of them in real life so sorry to see them to down last night. At lease you got to watch your team longer than I did :-) I look forward to following this :-)

Haha thanks man. It definitely was tough watching them play some of their best hockey of the playoffs and lose because of terrible luck. They showed a lot of resilience in the last two games and it's a shame that they have to go out like this. At least the team's young and there's always next year.

In terms of my dynasty, thanks for following! Obviously I'm not getting too in depth right now, but this is the furthest I've ever gotten into a season (it seems every year I get about 10 games further along) and I'd like to get into my second season. It's nice to be able to finish a game and then go play another one without worrying about having to write up a time consuming update. Expect more depth in the future.

"King" Henrik Lundqvist may have started the season off slowly, but he's surely recaptured his claim to the throne of goaltending royalty.

With a league leading GAA (1.90), Wins (37) and Shutouts (9) and a top five save percentage (.922), Lundqvist is on pace to have one of the best goaltending seasons in recent memory. He has climbed back from mediocrity in the beginning of the season, and is currently on a tear that would keep the Rangers at the top of the standings.

Offensively, the team is still led by sniper Marian Gaborik, who now has 35 goals and 17 assists, and Captain Ryan Callahan, who has 23 goals and 23 assists. Brad Richards leads the team with 32 assists, and rookies Carl Hagelin and Chris Kreider have combined for 63 points. Continued disappointments include Ruslan Fedotenko and Mike Rupp, who are currently healthy scratches.

On defense, Michael Del Zotto and Dan Girardi lead the scoring, each recording over 20 points. Marc Staal and Michael Sauer have each scored several goals, and the latter has played unbelievable defensive and transitional hockey. Ryan McDonagh has stepped up his play from earlier in the year, and is now soundly positive in Plus-Minus. A disappointment has been Anton Stralman, who has been solid defensively but has score no goals and only six assists.

With 20 games to go, this team is clearly prepared for the playoffs. With a league-leading goals against per game and mere games to go before a playoff berth is clinched, the New York Rangers are in prime position to make a run for Lord Stanley's Cup.
