GOLDEN KNIGHTS GET SET FOR SEASON OPENER

October 1st, 2024

Vegas Golden Knights pick up Morgan Geekie off Waivers from Seattle, adding depth to their Bottom 6 Lines

The Vegas Golden Knights look forward to rebounding after a disappointing 2nd Round Loss to the Oilers and star Goaltender Robin Lehner rebounding after undergoing knee surgery this past offseason.

Lehner played one full Preseason Game and was stellar in net, stopping 38/40 shots and a 5-1 win over Calgary.

The Waiver Wire has been quite active as teams trim down their roster to 21 players in anticipation of Opening Night. The Golden Knights capitalized on this opportunity to add some depth as they claimed (F) Morgan Geekie off waivers from Seattle. Geekie has played the last 4 seasons with Carolina and Seattle after being drafted 67th Overall in the 2017 Entry Draft. Geekie has 40 Goals and 68 Assists in 269 NHL Games. Geekie will be joined by LW Rafael Harvey-Pinard who was also waived by the Montreal Canadiens.

The Golden Knights will have a few rookies to start the season, who will be on an 10 day trial to see if they can adjust and adapt to the NHL play and stay with the team. These rookies include Forwards Jackson Hallum, Jackob Brabenec, Zach Dean and Miko Matikka. Forward Tanner Ross was one of the last cuts, being sent back down to the WHL. Goaltender Logan Thompson was also sent back down to the AHL; where he is expected to Start for the Henderson Silver Knights.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS DEAL AWAY STAR CENTER

October 2nd, 2024

Vegas Golden Knights have traded Star Center Evgeni Malkin after acquiring him in Free Agency last year. Malkin has two years left on his contract.

The Vegas Golden Knights have been busy trimming their Roster down to 21 Players in preparation of the upcoming Season. Currently the team is 5 Million over the Cap. The pressure was on 3rd year GM Evan McCabe to navigate the Cap. It didn't take long for McCabe to make some deals to free up some Cap Space.

The Golden Knights released today an official statement involving three separate trades.

VGK trade Ivan Morozov (F) to EDM for 2025 1st Round Pick and 2026 1st Round Pick.

VGK trade Alex Killorn (F) to BOS for a BOS 2025 3rd and 4th Round Pick.

GK trade Evgeni Malkin (F) to PHI for a PHI 2025 3rd Round Pick.

BOB MACKENZIE 2024/25 SEASON PREDICTIONS

TSN.ca Staff

Published:
October 3rd, 2024

Bob MacKenzie has long been a staple at TSN, but in more recent years Bob has taken a step back to enjoy some well deserved retirement. Admittedly though the popular panelist has taken a break from his residence in the Muskokas to shed some insight in the sport he loves. MacKenzie is a common fixture for coverage of the World Junior Tournament that takes place in late December, but he also does a panel where he discusses an upcoming NHL Season. Here were some of his bold predictions for this upcoming season:

STANLEY CUP WINNER - Colorado Avalanche

Pacific Division Winner: Edmonton Oilers
Central Division Winner: Colorado Avalanche
Atlantic Division Winner: Florida Panthers
Metropolitan Division Winner: Carolina Hurricanes
Lottery Pick Team: Buffalo Sabres
Surprise Team: Detroit Redwings

GOLDEN KNIGHTS GET SET FOR SEASON OPENER

October 4th, 2024

Vegas Golden Knights will play host to the San Jose Sharks in their Season Opener on October 8th.

Bruce Cassidy was preparing his troops for another long season as the Vegas Golden Knights prepare to bounce back and hopefully play in another Stanley Cup Final in their short lived existence. After a disappointing loss to the Edmonton Oilers the team came together and stated that they will work harder in the offseason to be prepared for the rigors of a long NHL Season.

Viewing the practices it looks like the lines may have already been solidified as the team gets set to take on their Division Rival the San Jose Sharks on October 8th.

The projected starting lines for the season are as follows:

McCABE NAVIGATING THE CAP LIKE A PRO

October 6th, 2024

Vegas Golden Knights will play host to the San Jose Sharks in their Season Opener on October 8th.

Evan McCabe has pulled off another slight miracle, as he has managed to get most of his star players to return this season without losing them due to Cap Restrictions. The Cap finally rose from $81.5 Million to $82.5 Million; which isn't a lot but more than it's moved in the past 5 seasons. Even with a little more wiggle room McCabe has been able to retain some of the talent which won the cup back in 2022/23, while still bringing in some new talent in the most recent offseason.

The Golden Knights are sitting just about 1 Million under the cap, which should help them this upcoming season if they get into injury woes. The current 5 year Cap Projection is also positive for the team, as provided below from CAPGEEK.

EICHEL NETS HATTRICK IN SEASON OPENER

October 8th, 2024

Vegas Golden Knights Forward Jack Eichel scored his 12 Career Hattrick in a 6-3 Rout over Division Rival San Jose.

The Vegas Golden Knights kicked off the 2024/25 Season with a bang as they double upped their Division Rivals San Jose Sharks 6-3. Eichel kicked off the scoring just 3 minutes into the game on his 2nd Shift, when Hague's lead pass sent Eichel and Pacioretty on a 2 on 1 breakaway. The defender tried to close space on Pacioretty, who deftly floated a saucer pass over to Eichel on the far side of the slot for the easy redirect. San Jose would take the lead as Vegas would get into Penalty Trouble midway through the period; putting them down two men. The young dynamic duo of Bedard and Cooley would score both Powerplay Markers to give the Sharks the lead going into the 2nd Period. Eichel would dominate the second period, scoring both goals for the Golden Knights before Geekie would pot another Goal early into the Third Period to pad the Knights lead.

San Jose would get one back but then surrender two Empty Net Goals to put the game out of reach. Robin Lehner looked to be back at his regular form as he would stop 36 of 39 shots on net.

GOLDEN KNIGHTS TOPS IN THE PACIFIC

October 28th, 2024

Rookie Forward Zach Dean was sent down after recording 0 points and a -8 in his first 9 games this season.

The Vegas Golden Knights have made some adjustments to their roster despite sporting a 7-1-1 Record. Rookie Forwards Zach Dean and Miko Mattika have registered for 0 Points in 9 Games so far this season, and sport a combined -15. The Coaching Staff had hoped that the prospects game would translate to the Pro Level as they kept them up after Preseason; but neither player has shown signs of progress. Dean was benched in his last game after coughing up the puck; which led to a Detroit Redwings goal. Mattika had been a healthy scratch for the last 3 games.

We have learned that the players were notified this morning that they were being sent down to Henderson. With the free roster spots, the Golden Knights have called up Jakob Brabanec and Oliver MacDonald. The young rookies should draw into the lineup for the Golden Knights upcoming game this Thursday against Pittsburgh.

MARCHESSAULT REACHES MILESTONE IN LOSS TO THE PENS

October 31st, 2024

Forward Jonathan Marchessault celebrates his career milestone 200th Goal.

The Vegas Golden Knights end the month of October with a 7-2-1 record, which is good enough for 2nd in the Pacific Division. The team has had some early season success that they hope to improve upon heading into November after suffering a loss at the hands of Pittsburgh on October 31st. Jonathan Marchessault celebrated his 200th Career Goal in the 4-2 Loss. The team also learned that they will be without Rookie Forward Jakub Brabanec after he appeared to suffer a leg injury midway through the second period. The Golden Knights have called up Forward Tai Yorke from Henderson.

The Top 2 Lines for the Golden Knights have been scoring in buckets, as the team currently has a +9 Goal Differential (38GF - 29GA) thanks to the heavy lifting of the Top Line; who have combined for 12G, 21A and 33 Points in the 10 game span.
