1963 NFL

Well, I recently started a new project, the 1963 NFL. I hope to finish it, and I am not sure of the timeline, but the project has been fun so far. There is a version of the roster with just the Giants and Browns uploaded to Madden Share.

Currently, I only intend to do NFL teams, not AFL teams. I might go back and pick up the AFL, but I cannot promise that at this time.

Also, this is a PLAY NOW roster ONLY! I will NOT be doing anything to Free Agents or "expansion" teams. When I am finished with the roster, if someone else wants to tackle that as a project, be my guest.

I also have uploaded an offensive and defensive playbook for use with the roster. I will certainly be making adjustments to the playbooks to fine tune them, but at the moment they do a pretty decent job of replicating the 1960s NFL. Keep in mind that there are certain limitations that I can simply not work around for the playbooks. Formations are missing, such as the Pro formation.

For those who have played my rosters before, I usually try to keep players' ages and experience close to reality. However, with this roster, I am not worrying about that at all since it has no bearing on Play Now games. I am trying to keep height and weight close on QBs, RBs, WRs, CBs, Ss. Lineman I was going to try, but I do not think it is possible. So, I am using modern lineman as lineman. It is working well so far.

You will see that some punters and kickers are doubles of guys who played another position too. This is on purpose. I tried to give them a number close to their real numbers. Back in the 60s, few teams had a true kicking specialist, most used a guy already on the roster, so I am doing my best to replicate that.

I have played the Browns vs. Giants a couple of full games and a couple of partial games and I am pretty happy with the results. I also did a CPU v CPU game and it played nicely.

I know this roster will not be a popular one overall, but I know there are a few guys on here who should enjoy it. Overall this is a roster I just wanted to see if I could make it work.

Please take a look at the roster and see what you think so far. Feedback is appreciated.

Love your work man! Do up 1963!! Will give you more constructive critique once I play them more if you want it. Loved seeing Giants and Steelers so far... bring on the Lions and Cowboys!!

The roster has been updated. The Packers and Bears are now done.

Also, I made some changes to QB ratings. Nothing major just an adjustment.

Well, I am running into an issue with this roster. There are simply not enough small white guys! I am running out of guys for Running backs, wide receivers and defensive backs.

I am ok with creating players, but I am not sure that I am able to create enough guys to cover what I still need. I would need to be able to create at least 80 guys!

I am open to thoughts or ideas.

Yes, always an issue for pre-1980 rosters. And especially for those in the 50's and 60's. One of the reasons my roster set does not contain as many teams from that era as I would like.

I think if you can't find free agents you are stuck creating players...not sure what the overall total is that game allows you to create. Of course, all will be rookies. For the teams not in existence back then I suppose you could arrange trades to bring over caucasian players. But as you know, the heights, weights, etc will most likely not match.

EA has us by the short hairs for sure...

I am not worried about the players being rookies for this roster, as I have no intention of doing the whole modern league, only the NFL teams. I am not planning on doing the AFL teams at this time. So the roster will be for Play Now only.
I have moved a lot of players around and had to settle for being close on height and weight. I cannot be as picky as I am on my other rosters.

This whole problem would be solved if there was full editing in the Main Menu like there is in Franchise Mode.

If I can figure out how many players the game will let me make, and it is enough, I will keep working on the roster. If the number is too low, unfortunately, this project may end.

The CAP limit is 88 just to let u know
