Speed Threshold Slider Breakthrough

I've recently stumbled upon the importance of speed threshold and not just it's impact on gameplay but more importantly, WHAT IT MEANS

Speed Threshold Slider determines the slowest speed allowable on the field.

Whatever you set your threshold to will determine the slowest player's speed on the field.

If your lineman has 65 Speed but you have an 80 Speed threshold, your lineman's Speed will be boosted to an 80 and will NEVER go below it.

Now if you have a runningback with a rating of 85 Speed, this means he is now only +5 Speed faster than the offensive lineman, who used to be a whopping -20 speed slower.

The offensive lineman's speed has now been boosted above floor level

Knowing this, we now must look at a few things:

1.The slowest player in the game is Ramon Foster and his speed is...50!
This tells us that for better or worse, the rosters themselves are tuned to a threshold cap of 50.

Any higher than 50 and Ramon Foster wouldnt be PLAYING TO HIS TRUE RATINGS

If i set the threshold to 60, then that means Ramon Foster is now a 60 speed player AT ALL TIMES.

This essentially erases the idea of building sliders with a threshold above 50

2.Fatigue

Ramon Foster may be a 50 and the threshold matches that, but the flaw with a threshold of 50 is that it assumes Ramon Foster would NEVER get tired, not even one bit. Even when he is 100% fatigued, he will always be 50 speed.

The threshold leaves no room for the SLOWEST players in the league to progressively get fatigued throughout the game. Ramon Foster has no room to fatigue due to the threshold being exactly the same as his speed.

Conclusion:
in order to accurately represent the ratings of players, a minimum speed threshold in the range of 50-40 will give the best representation of speed difference and separation, at least as far as the ratings in the game occur.

Unless you remake the roster and lowered/raised the speed floor of all players, you will be fighting against the actual ratings themselves.

Personally, i think the speed of all players across the board should be lowered by about 10-15 which would make a threshold of 35 perfect. I just feel like players are too fast in general which leads to high QB's YPA and Team's Total Yards averages.

FOR BASE ROSTERS i would recommend a threshold of 45 with 40 being the lowest. 45 gives some room for the slowest players to get SLIGHTLY fatigued without busting the game open by being too slow to be effective.
This will make sure that the slowest player on the field will always at least be a 45 speed rating.

Edit:
Also this means that raising the threshold doesn't make ANY PLAYER FASTER UNLESS IT GOES ABOVE THEIR SPEED RATING.

If CB1 is an 85 speed and he is going against WR1 with a 90 speed, the only way for CB1 to be any closer to speed to WR1 is to raise the threshold to 86 which would boost CB1 speed by +1.

RAISING THE THRESHOLD DOESNT MAKE PLAYERS FASTER UNLESS THEIR SPEED IS LOWER THAN THE THRESHOLD'S

Good stuff. Heck of a writeup.

The problem right now is how tight the game plays. 0 speed threshold really bandaids this for now until a patch comes out. The game’s so much more loose. But when a patch comes out, this stuff will be the key. 44, 45 has always seemed like the best.

The tackle slider is key

The higher the tackle slider, the larger the tackle vicinity is for defenders.

You want to lower it a bit until defenders feel like they are in space by themselves instead of moving like heatseeking missiles.

This year tackling at 50 feels like 100 last year.

So...

0 speed threshold and 39 tackle, how does that translate to what you guys are saying?

Re: Speed Threshold Slider Breakthrough

Threshold has nothing to do with the Speed (SPD) rating. It tells you how fast players Accelerate (ACC).

If you lower the threshold, everyone gets slower because it takes more time to get to max speed. But slower players get more slower than the fast players because they have lower ACC.

Same vice versa. If you raise the threshold, everyone gets faster, but the fastest players get to max speed more faster.

To get accurate speed differentials between the fastest and the slowest players, you need a threshold of around 20 this year.
