To wit — I myself learned Cover 3 Match specifically through Madden NFL 17.

Additionally, I didn't fully grasp Quarters / Palms / Box / Solo / Special until I watched videos of NY KIA on YouTube walking through all the rules of each coverage, and he specifically used Madden 20 to demonstrate.

While it's encouraging to see linemen blocking defenders in the open field and at the second level, too many defenders were being decleated.

In one clip, a lineman decleated two consecutive defenders. That's not football.

Every interaction between a linebacker/db and a lineman doesn't result in the defender being decleated.

Hopefully, that can be toned down.

Really feel like this could be the best Madden we’ve had in 5-6+ years.

Not trying to take a shot at what you typed, or at you, but I swear this sounds familiar, and reads familiar like every year. It's like clockwork every year at this time.

"Looks and feels better", "Possibly one of the best Maddens of all times, or since whatever era", "If people can't see and feel the improvements, they just have a problem with Madden", etc.................

It's like watching a rerun of the same show, over and over again.

That’s 100% valid and no offense taken. I think it’s all subjective, which is why we hear this each year bc it’s probably true for at least some portion of players each year. I should have phrased it that - speaking for myself - this year finally feels like the first tangible next gen jump that I’ve been waiting for.

Agreed. I am guessing they didn't want to make the tutorials, but match coverage is a key principle in defense today, it's a shame how it's implemented in Madden.

Having said that, and played the beta, they are trying to make this a simulation football game, I have little doubt. One of the key focuses is ball knockouts in the pass game, that doesn't get implemented in an arcade game.

It seems you have never witnessed Trent Williams.

Didn’t they down size the playbooks in madden 23? Now basically adding plays back to make them the size they were for years before that?

Yes, they did downsize them and have now added back more. The main reason they downsized (according to what they said last year) was to get rid of rarely used plays and replace them with more modern concepts and plays. That, from what I have seen in the beta so far is what they have done. There are some new run plays, mostly tosses and sweeps, that have more accurate blocking concepts in them now. My guess is that with the work they have done on blocking this year, it allowed them to bring those concepts in, in a more realistic way.
