Madden NFL 25 Impressions | PS5, XBOX Series X/S, PC

Gameplay is a lot like college football. Not as fast and loose. Vibe/atmosphere is Not as lively. Feels a bit more empty.

Really love the progressive lighting… wish cfb had it.

Really really love the accurate helmet sizes compared to cfb. Looks so much better now. Especially on guys like cj stroud.

Uniforms def not as polished compared to cfb. A lot of mistakes I’ve seen just playing for an hour.

Overall a good experience. Feels smoother than last year. Graphics are nice and crisp. Might get it if it goes on sale since I already have cfb and they play pretty similarly.

So far only played a half of a preseason game on all madden difficulty, default sliders except for speed parity at 75.

Gameplay seems smooth, somewhat similar to ncaa (though I think the gameplay is a little slower than ncaa which I like). Using the Jags playbook and I see a lot of similar plays like I did in ncaa (mostly motion plays).

My one main gripe though is the crowd noise and stadium sound is horrible yet again, I minds well just be playing scrimmage with the lack of crowd/stadium aspect.

Otherwise game is great, just have to get used to some other features.

Oh and they finally stopped cutting to your coach after every play

Love the new menus and UI. I jump right into franchise default all pro 15 min/13 acc. Commanders at Jets(me).

Commanders walloped me 49-35. This game had a weird start for me as I stopped them on the first two drives but a roughing the punter and roughing QB extended both drives and they scored to make it 14-0. My first drive I threw INT on first pass but it was weird. My receiver was open but as soon as I threw it he turned upfield moving away from the ball letting defender catch it. Then things snowballed from there. It was 42-7 at the half. I feel like pass reaction by cpu d is too responsive. Several times they knocked balls down with their back to the ball like they had eyes in the back of their head.

I ran for about 200 yards averaging 5.0 a carry. CPU couldn’t run against me, they averaged 1.8 a carry.
Other than the two roughing penalties on me I just had one false start and CPU had no penalties.

On the plus side the pass rush on both teams were good, five sacks each for both teams. I got Kate Scott and Brock Huard and thought they were pretty good.

Top 6 in the league in total team rushing last year.
Just meant the Fins pass a lot, and bombed me.

Welp, things turned out about as I expected, without real time coaching it's.... this ain't it. I ran inside zone all day, did the defensive line or linebackers pinch to try and take it away? No. They don't adjust their coverages to what you do etc. Speaking of coverages, and this was one of the dead giveaways real time coaching didn't make it in, there are no double team coverages like in college football.

In cfb25, if you are killing them with a wr, they will double him, put their best corner on him. Even the coverage disguises are better, to me. This game was on default all-pro, and before people say well duh, it's on default, that's not why, not entirely.

It happened because they don't adapt to what you are doing, all-american is supposed to equal all-pro difficulty wise. It doesn't. With slider adjustments, none to the cpu pass coverage, BTW, I haven't needed to go to heisman.

As I said before I ever played it, not having real time coaching was a big mistake. You still have to play handcuffed to a large degree because they can't make the adjustments you make. Better luck next year, I suppose.

They’re bad sometimes. I wish I could share an Xbox game clip to show you. I caught the ball going outside with the WR and safety took an angle to go behind him and chased him instead of cutting his route like a real player would do in real life.

Random thoughts:
  • Not a fan of the new camera angle.
  • Tirico & Olsen mega quiet.
  • Hurts is basically sitting down before every snap... it's very weird.
  • Graphics are awesome, you can see every blade of grass.
  • Menus are quick but franchise menus still bland and there's no league immersion so it's one play now game after another basically.
It's an upgrade from m24 (which i enjoyed a lot) and in any other year i would buy it... but CFB is way too good for me to drop $70 on this game right now. I'll probably circle back when then price drops.

Maybe someday we again can assign generic playbooks to our created coaches inside franchise mode… sigh.
