how do you recover onsides kicks?

Arguably there should be some "best practices" (as in normally you have a 1% chance, but option A, if done correctly, gives you a 5% chance).

I actually recovered an onside kick against the CPU yesterday (then threw an interception on the next play to end the game...sigh). I think I went about half power and kept the arrow on the kicking meter at the top, even though the entire meter was on the left. I never recovered one in Madden 25, so I was probably just REALLY lucky.

I don't think I have ever recovered an onside kick in almost twenty years of Madden. I've kicked off and had the returner catch the ball in the field near the sideline, step back into the end-zone and out of bounds for a safety a few times. Given the low probability of an onside recovery and the high probability of the opposition making a 60 yard FG, I totally gave up.

I've never blocked a PAT of FG, despite blocks being not uncommon for a certain team I play as.

Previously I was able to block punts almost 100% in a specific circumstance. Given a punter formation with the third punt protector on the left, the punt could be blocked using the punt block formation if the rusher lined up between the tackle and outside blocker is fast enough. This only worked when the offense was backed up to their own 5 or worse. Either the safety or the corner on the outside would block the punt almost every time. This no longer seems to work though, so I have not blocked a single kick this version.

Returns aren't too hard. You have to be pretty fast, line up blocks and get lucky. Last night I would have had a punt return TD if not for Ted Ginn Jr's precipitous speed decrease between seasons one and two (he'll be cut after the season for being too slow @81!!!). I returned right, with a middle return, broke a tackle and cut back left. I was caught from behind after 34 yards, which wouldn't have happened with any other return man on my team (my returners seem to get injured, a lot).

I've never recovered an onside kick, but the CPU has recovered one against me. The ball literally bounced off the hands of 4 of my guys before the CPU was able to recover 😒

I played Madden Ultimate Team yesterday and someone recovered one against me

I recovered one by sheer dumb luck of a player not being able to pick it up before my team dove and grabbed it. BTW I came back from 42-35 to win 42-45 because of this. (:
