The team scheme, however, ("Spread", "Power Run", etc.) certainly does. The costs of specific attribute upgrades decrease if there's a match between a player's player style and your coach's offensive / defensive scheme setting (mainly intangible and mental things like AWR).

As to the topic, I do adjust these once at the onset of my CFM as to help me build the team I want to build.
Well, if that's the case with the team schemes, that isn't too hard to manage. I don't recall there being many of them.

So you do adjust the other schemes how you see fit, at the on set, of starting to build your team around, rather than matching it to your current starters, if I understand correctly?

Just trying to get a feel for how I am going to go about those schemes this year when I really get into CFM. Or worry about them much at all.

Appreciate you checking out the XP question on the other scheme settings, Hooe.

Yep. For example, I'm playing as the Cowboys, and I want my LE to be a 4-3 Run Stopper rather than a 4-3 Edge Rusher as a I want to be stronger against the run in my base defense. This changes the OVR rating calculation for me for all LEs, the most immediate effect being that I now see Tyrone Crawford as having a better OVR rating than the default starter, George Selvie; the high-level indication to me being that for what I want out of my LE, I'd be better off playing Crawford. Which makes sense; Crawford has better ratings than Selvie in STR, BSH, and PMV, so he'd likely be the better player against the run anyway.

I have similar examples at other positions, but that's the best one I can offer because it resulted in me changing my depth chart.

So, since it pretty much just changes overalls, it is more like a guide for finding the best player for those specific positions, then. I like that idea too. Plus it does give you the feel that you are building your team around these schemes, thus maybe scouting and drafting prospects to fit the scheme.. although still taking a best player available that can play the position you need is still important, regardless if they match the scheme, I would think.

Now, like you mentioned, the team schemes DO have affect on XP though right? That is important to note.

So, I've basically decided I'm going to use schemes as a sim aspect, and not including team schemes (since they do affect XP when matched with players), choose my own schemes then try and build or re-build and scout and draft players to fit those schemes.. but still, if I end up with a good draft pick, take the best player available at a needed position regardless if he fits my scheme for that position or not.

Seems like that's the most you can do with the schemes, besides the team schemes. It does add another interesting layer to playing out a CFM more in-depth, in a way, that way.

Thanks for info on team schemes Hooe. I didn't know it affected XP gains. So, I'm basically doing what Sheba and Hooe do, rather than just matching schemes to player-styles. lol Sounds like a good idea.

Re: Coaching schemes

It's a bit annoying, though, that teams that have new coaches or new coordinators don't get a change. I just compared Mike Zimmer's scheme to Leslie Frazier's from M25 and they're exactly the same despite Zimmer having (according to M15) Power Run and Attacking 4-3 and Frazier having West Coast and Tampa 2. I'd have thought that Ravens would now be a Zone Run offense instead of a Power Run now that they have Gary Kubiak as their offensive coordinator, or perhaps the Bills might have an Attacking 4-3 to match Jim Schwartz's style. Not to mention weird stuff like Ken Whisenhunt having a Base 3-4 Defense and the schemes for the players are things like 4-3 Run Stopper and Prototype outer linebackers. And there's Mike Smith, who apparently has a Hybrid Defense and his playbook is primarily 3-4 defense plays, having 4-3 schemes.

I apologize for just blurting all this out and it not really helping you, but it is something to think about if you're someone like me who just tries to get the players that best fit the scheme of the coach. Annoying for me that if I want to try a Ken Whisenhunt CFM that the defensive schemes are out of whack.

Re: Coaching schemes

Not sure if this is all connected. I have a RG with a OVR of 72 and 2nd string of 68. Neither one match my team offensive scheme of Balanced Offense. When I go to the Upgrade Position screen it states that my current RG has a OVR of 68, which is the OVR of my 2nd string. I even changed my RG scheme to match the scheme of the 1st string RG, but it still shows my RG of having a 68 OVR.
EDIT: on the Team Needs screen it shows my RG position rating as a D, which would mean the OVR is below 70.

Any thoughts?

I too Quinn, when I take over a team, like to set my schemes for everyone and then start to trade and draft for guys that fit into that scheme. To me, adds more realism and just making a fantasy team of best players available.
