NFL Combine Results

How do the workouts at the NFL Combine correlate to numbers in the game. I know 40 yard dash would be a speed rating. Bench Press would be strength. I would like to take the combine numbers for guys participating this year and compare them the results from last year and come up with a baseline for the attributes of 2015 rookies. Which attributes would these workouts have a correlation with.

Vertical Jump
Broad Jump
3 Cone
20 yard shuttle
60 yard shuttle

Re: NFL Combine Results

Vertical jump- jump
Broad jump- nothing
3 Cone- agility
20 yard shuttle- acceleration
60 yard shuttle- would also be acceleration, but i think 20 yard shuttle is probably better, since I think ACC is the first 5 yard burst in madden

40 yard dash should not be the speed rating. It does not accurately depict a players on field (read:game) speed. They run without pads. For example Terrelle Davis, he didn't have a good 40 time, but he was really fast in pads on the field. Then there are players who run a fast 40, but aren't as fast on the field.

This just goes to the point that speed should continue to be de-emphasised as an attribute that goes into making an effective player in Madden, because in real football your effectiveness is determined by other attributes that are key to your position such as agility, or route running, acceleration, etc.

Too often in the past, speed attributes have been arbitrarily increased. Devin Hester, for instance ran a 4.41, yet had 100 speed at one point in the game. That makes no sense to me. His skill as a returner were about so much more than just sheer speed, which madden continues to get wrong.

For reference, Marc Mariani, another Pro Bowl returner, ran 4.48 and had an 86 speed rating at one point.

Follow Donny Moore on Twitter. He's been tweeting out rating for different guys how they would correlate in Madden.

Seems he's been retweeting those tweets from the official Madden Twitter.

For those who have asked about Speed...........

If only EA would stop caring so much about the speed rating. Plus those seem so far out of whack. Also way to over react to J.J Nelson's 40 there.

He is not overreacting to JJ Nelson's 40 time. He one of the best returners in football last season and is a legitimate "96 speed" guy.

Re: NFL Combine Results

how is a 4.28 only a 96 if a 4.42 is a 90 and a 4.52 is an 88? Donny is on drugs with his ratings
