Unlock Trading

If this has been asked, I'm sorry.

We bought my son Madden 25 for Christmas and I just got around to playing it. I wanted to do a Franchise and can't figure out how to unlock trading.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you just created a Connected Franchise save, you'll need to select "Start Franchise" from the Actions tab to unlock trading.

If you are actively playing a franchise and have completed Week 8 of the regular season, you'll need to wait until the offseason to unlock trading unless you turned off the trade deadline during the setup stage of your connected franchise.

I started an offline dynasty. One as an owner, one as a coach. Immediately went to trade for someone and it wouldn't let me. It was locked. I haven't advanced at all. Maybe that's my problem?

Yes, that's the problem.

Connected Franchise has a step before (first season) Preseason Week 1 which must be advanced through before anything can happen, be it free agent signings or trades. This is to allow a moment for additional users to join the franchise save before anything consequential happens.

Does it matter if I have online or not? Because I don't have XBox Live. Therefore it's offline.

Nope you don't need online, it is 100% functional offline.
