player resign issue

Maybe it is an anomaly, maybe it makes sense, but I just find it weird.

It is the 2018 season in my Ravens CFM and Jimmy Smith is in the final year of his contract so it is time to re-up.

He is 30 years old, and rated at a 92 overall. I go to resign him in week 2 and he wants a 1 year deal for $10 million. The cost of the franchise tag for a corner is $14 mil.

What the hell is he thinking? Does he have the worst agent in history or does this make sense to you?

Seems to be a trend with older corners. Sean Smith and Darelle Revis have been doing that in my CFM for a few years now. Don't see it with other positions though, just corners.

Had Jonathan Joseph who was 33 asking for 8mil a year and was at that point I think in the low 80's. Kind of made me scratch my head. I resigned him a couple times but at that point I had to part ways.

What was Tom Brady thinking when he took less than the highest paid QB's? It's not intentional in Madden but for some players in real life it's not always about the most money, for some guys millions are millions and more money than they will ever spend in life.

It is not so much about the money as it is the length of the deal.

Can you point to an example of a premier player taking a 1 year deal worth less than the franchise tag?

I was expecting him to ask for a 3-4 year deal.

Yes and he was a CB too. In 2013 Aqib Talib signed a 1 year, $5 million deal to stay with the Patriots. He was offered a 5 year deal by the Patriots but turned it down in hopes of cashing in the next year (which he did with Denver). The 2013 franchise tag for CB's was $10.6 million for CB's.
