Franchise Tag a guy whose contract is up and you don't want long term. You can keep developing him all year and get more value for him!

No signing bonus penalty since it's one year/all salary and then trade before the draft for a pick or 3.

I was confused by the tag but then figured out that you can only apply it in the offseason after failed negotiations.

Also, keep in mind that the cpu criminally undervalues future draft picks while slightly overvaluing current year picks. You can get a lot more pickwise if you're willing to accept future picks.
