Punt Return Blocking Dumbed Down?

I haven't played M18 in a minute, but has anyone else seen how useless the blockers are during punt coverage? It's like those on the coverage just bounce off blockers or get ignored completely; was I the only one having these issues?

I think the issue is that the punt distances themselves are way too long. On more realistic punt distances, the blocking and lanes seem to be much better. I think on the longer punts, you begin to have issues where the lanes are skewed. Add to that, the players may be more fatigued from running further and I think it could explain the poor blocking.

So yes, I do agree that there is some problem here, but I think the culprit is related to that distance and not so much the blocking itself.

I think the problem has been for many years, that the gunners/blockers don't actually do what they are supposed to do.

Irl, gunners don't run full speed back to the PRer and turn around and try to block the kicking teams players...

It's more that they run WITH the gunners, trying to get in their way so to speak..

Punt blocking is pretty much broken IMO. Whenever I field a punt, I've got gunners bearing down on me from the left and the right. I've got blockers both sides who just need to turn around and make any contact whatsoever to spring me, yet nearly every single time both gunners are left unblocked. Meanwhile when I punt and their returner is about to catch the ball, I'll take control of a gunner and sprint down trying to swerve around the blockers with their backs turned to have a free run at the return man, yet as soon as the punt is caught, the blockers turn around and automatically block me. This is on all-pro where the CPU shouldn't have an advantage... but they do.
