Madden 18, OOTB vs Madden 18, patched ....

With madden 17, it was valid the game played better with no patches and out-of-the-box. Does the same hold true for madden 18 ? I ask this cause I am tired of second idiot CB play. Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

At launch there were major complaints about the ineffectiveness of zone coverage, even from the Game Changers relative to the builds they got their hands on at EA PLAY. Scrambling quarterbacks also didn't run much and pocket quarterbacks had statue AI issues.

Both of those significant issues have been addressed in title updates.

I tried myself, statue QB made me re-install patches. But, if you can deal with that, by all means give it a go! I enjoyed M17 a lot OOTB

The fully patched version is miles better than original, they've steadily made gameplay improvements throughout the patch cycle. Your concerns about coverage (as in that other thread you started) are more due to your slider settings, not the patch.

Re: Madden 18, OOTB vs Madden 18, patched ....

I shelved the game and went back to Madden 16 (which I am still playing BTW). After the recent patch I am back playing Madden 18 in conjunction with 16.

The QB AI is miles better than 17 and 18 OOTB. Night and day.

Before this latest patch the game was unplayable for me due to the brain dead CPU QB AI.

I am in 100% agreement with this assessment.'16 and patched '18 certainly play the best. The only recent version that may be better ootb would be '17 which at any rate had subpar qb AI.

I feel like OOTB was more challenging than the patched version, but for the wrong reasons. There are layers of problems with this game, you have poor playcalling, poor QB AI, and poor zone defense. Before the patch the cpu would take way too many sacks, but the terrible zone defense would give them a chance to get out of the hole and still make conversions. I'd get a lot of sacks but still give up a bunch of points which would make the game challenging. Now with the improved QB AI the cpu seems too quick to check the ball down and I'm forcing a lot more three and outs. The improved QB play has actually made defense easier to me

Re: Madden 18, OOTB vs Madden 18, patched ....

Most recent patch really fixed the qb issues. Well, maybe not all of them, lol. But, they will absolutely scramble, now. And, as a defender, I tend to play MLB. And, legit, I used to try and play between the RB out of the backfield and the TE running routes over the middle. NOW, I also have to stay close enough to the LOS and pay attn to what the qb is doing. Especially, that dirty Russell Wilson running all over the place!!! Lol. Cam newton is fun to play against, again, as well. And, truly, all QBs seem to move around in the pocket to some degree. Overall, I’m enjoying the gameplay most over any other version of the game. So, yeah, patched 18 is the way to go.

And, to the zone D issues. I’m not sure if they’ve been fixed. But, depending on the team, I have thrown a few 3 pick games because the zones were defended well. I’d say the safeties may still play a little too deep, and if you’re smart, u can always beat em, probably. But, for me, as in real life, sometimes I just make a bone headed throw based on pressure and thoughts that I can force it in. Again, overall, I’m getting great gameplay right now on all-pro default. I win most of my games with atl, but I have a solid roster at this point, so it’s hard to say I should lose with the talent level I have.
