Playing Ball in Air

I can’t for the life of me seen to be able to get defenders to play the ball in the air while user controlling them. If I switch while the ball is the air it works fine. I keep getting balls thrown over my user LB’s head while he merrily stands there drooling.

I’ve been testing using the cover 2 drill in skills trainer where the TE goes out on a spot route. I user the LB and have him stood in tbf way and... he never reacts to me mashing Y. To the point I succeed as he breaks up the pass by letting it hit him. Oddly as soon as that happens here reacts to the tipped ball.

What am I doing wrong?!

You have to hold the button this year instead of just tapping. So if you're just tapping it, you're likely never going to see an animation trigger. However, if you are holding it, there also seems to be a bug right now where input isn't registering even when you do hold the button as well as even if you don't press anything which seems to be most commonly happening when it comes to the RAC catch.

Another thing to consider is I saw a tweet from Clint where a ball hit a player who didn't react and he said that the player didn't have high enough ratings to play the ball over his shoulder so it could be any number of things. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply, I’m 100% holding the button, to the point that of the player makes the catch the defender wakes up and tackles him as I’m still holding Y.

I’m not talking a over the shoulder pass, I’m talking a I’m squatted on the route facing the QB, to the point if it wasn’t a scripted play no way the ball is thrown. I’ve also tried with a number of different players to see if it was a attribute thing.

Interestingly after experimenting I’ve got it to trigger, but only if I hit Y as soon as the QB winds up to throw, trying to hit it once the ball is on its way and nothing happens.

TBH it’s the first time I’ve tried usering a LB on D and I’m struggling big time. Can’t shed blocks, can’t cover, can’t tackle!

I’ve only got it to work so far in this specific drill by pressing and holding waaay early. If I tap Orr tap and hold as the ball arrives it hits my guy on the head.

Was having the same issue yesterday. Played about 5 or 6 games of MUT. Jumped countless routes, literally should have had close to 10 picks with Sean Taylor and I never got an animation on the attempts, but a few times and each one was a drop. Its irritating jumping a route perfectly and the game still rewarding the other player because you just run by the ball like an idiot while they get a chunk of yards.

One of the dev's specifically stated that db swat or play ball would be based on timing this year. I have not found that to work. If I press and hold button when ball is in the air, the animation will trigger like in M17. If I wait until ball has almost arrived, the animation triggers too late or not at all. That's what I am experiencing.

Had the same issue. Holding and tapping. Neither seem to work consistently. Safeties seem to be better about it but LB's really struggle to get their hands up no matter what.
