Banjo/Box & Other Coverages

With Bunch offenses being the meta in Madden, I am curious if/when there will be new assignment logic for defenses to assist in covering Bunch and unbalanced formations?

Unless I am missing something, the defense needs more tools. We cannot even cross-man anymore, which was helpful and seemed to be a solid techniques to stop crossing, slant and drags when used in the correct circumstances.

Curious on others opinions. Please join in on ideas for coverage adjustments

Re: Banjo/Box & Other Coverages

That's one thing that worries me with 20 is the offense is getting a ton of love and it doesn't seem like the defense is getting any at all. Hopefully they have added in to the defensive playbooks as well. I would really like to at least see more blitz packages and more disguised coverages.

Personally I would rather see them go to more of a tiered playcalling system at least on defense so you can calls plays more closely to how they are actually called in real football. It would be cool if you could first call your defensive front and alignment then it brings you to a menu to call blitzes and stunts (if they brought back stunts) and finally based on the other calls it brings up your options for coverages to call. Or you call a coverage then it brings up another menu with what fronts, alignments, and blitzes you can run from that coverage concept. Unfortunately this will probably never happen because it would be to "complicated" for Maddens casual crowd, at least that's how EA would probably look at it.

From a business standpoint I get making the game more accessible I just wish they could add more in depth features like a tiered playcall system and give people the option to go back to the regular playcall style if they want. This would please both the average player and the hardcore crowd.

Also I wish they would give us in the playcall menus an option for disguising coverages. Based on what playcall you make give us an option for certain looks we can come out in.

I agree with you 100%. Maybe as the QB1 mode is expanded, EA may introduce more coverages and through the process of building a starting QB we will see position coaches train the QB/User on different coverages. This could also teach us how to use new, realistic, coverage logic when calling defensive plays.

Then again, maybe Madden 21 will introduce a MLB1 or Safety1 and new defensive logic can be added.

I would also like to see some changes of positions on the depth chart, especially for defense. Mainly strong and weak side LBs and 1 and 3 tech DTs. It makes it tough drafting players with specific roles in mind when you can't get them lined up properly everytime with the way depth charts are currently set up.

I will say though it seemed in the beta like they improved man coverage which was nice. I hope they continue to improve it so I can finally fully install the fast attacking man defensive scheme I've wanted to run in my online franchise.

I wish they let us setup our own coverage rules, at least in franchise mode.

That would be awesome. Though, it seems more people are concerned and upset about referees not being in the game, than the missing defensive logic and adjustment abilities.

I can see why Madden developers are in such a tough spot.

Lol hilariously true.

Hate to compare to 2k, but you can setup all kind of rules for defense in that game.
