In it's base 46 formation in the playbook it's 8 in the box with 6 on the line of scrimmage meant to go after the QB and shut down the run. Your secondary is vulnerable though.

How do you generate a pass rush with all the guys being run stoppers? This intrigues me so much. I currently run a Press Quarters 4-3. Wide 9.

The archetypes are run stoppers but the actual plays you're more often than not sending extra guys and only dropping 3 into coverage. One of the staple plays I run out of the 46 formation is Engage 8 where I'm sending everyone and their mom at the QB. I've been able to generate a consistent pass rush but I've also got burned by big plays.

I'm paraphrasing here but it was Buddy Ryan, the father of the 46 defense, who said "If we're not good enough to get to the QB with 4 guys, then we'll send 5 or 6 or whatever it takes. We're not going to let the QB sit back there and pick us apart."

Let me preface this by saying, I am 100% team Cousins. I can find plenty of other holes in the team. But dammit, when Justin Fields falls to us? Draft him and trade Cousins to clear up cap. To who? The Bears. Completely unrealistic? Yes. Excited for the future with Fields-Cook-Jefferson? Hell yes.

Will I probably start over like I do one million times each year because I cannot commit to anything except my wife? Yes.
I've done largely the same with the 49ers - simmed Year 1, and then Fields was sitting there in the Draft so I took him (Trey Lance was actually taken before Fields). Jimmy's days are numbered and I'll be looking to trade.

You dream about Fields - Cooks - Jefferson. I dream about Fields-Aiyuk-Deebo-Mostert-Juice-Kittle running (at times) the Ravens option offense (that they stole from the Kap-era 49ers, but still).

2021 Houston Oilers

1-1 Cincinatti @ 2-0 Houston

Joe Burrow carved. us. up. for 397 passing yards and 5 TDs even after sacking him 5 times and intercepting him once. Tannehill had over 400 yards passing and 4 TDs and as usual, Henry broke the century mark on the ground. Despite having over 500 yards of offense the Bengals topped us 48-45 in a game that had both teams' defensive coordinators surrendering their game checks.

Burrow is a legit superstar in his sophomore season and the Oilers are averaging 42 points/game after 3 games in that run and shoot offense.

Here's my 3rd round rookie gem - slot receiver Mike Heyward getting his first career NFL TD reception:

You’re preaching to the choir. Chicago Bears fan to the end here!

RIP BUDDY!

Re: How's Your Franchise Going: Madden 21 Edition

After franchise testing on all madden sliders the past month or so, I’ve finally settled into my franchise. Through the testing ( I played 6-7 games each time) I never saw a game as scripted as giants vs Steelers. I literally went 0-21 against them in my testing. Starting my real franchise, which I usually start around this point with injuries and trades, etc, I decided to settle on this one as my main. I absolutely shellacked the Steelers and am currently sitting 4-1 with my loss being in OT to freakin Nick foles lol. Learned how to call my D vs the cpu cheese and have been very pleased. Competitive, but you don’t feel screwed constantly.

Crazy how Cameron heyward plays like the best DL to ever play but Aaron Donald is non existent. He was no factor in my rams game, but everytime I played the Steelers, heyward was basically the madden 20 Bobby Wagner

So it was just like last SNF vs. the 49ers? :-)
