If I let the CPU upgrade my players, will they always select the archetype that's a scheme fit?

Also, is there a way to know for certain whether or not a player's overall will be increased when choosing which archetype to upgrade? Sometimes it increases, sometimes it doesn't. I've noticed that there's a far greater chance of their overall increasing if you upgrade the top archetype, but nothing really beyond that.

From what I understand, it's always going to upgrade whatever archetype is the highest overall.

For your second question, a player's OVR is based on whatever their highest rated archetype is. When you use a skill point, it guarantees that the specific archetype you choose will go up one OVR so if you use it on the highest rated archetype, his OVR is guaranteed to go up each time but if you use it on one of the lower rated archetypes, it's only going to guarantee that the specific archetype you chose goes up one overall and based on the attribute upgrades you receive, the highest archetype may or may not go up.
