RPO wr route

Why does the WR run north Instead of towards sideline when passing to him. It makes it so much harder to use. He runs right into the defenders !!!

Yup, it's pretty annoying. If you throw a low pass it should consistently get to the receiver.

Re: RPO wr route

Unfortunately, you have to throw it to the receiver the second you snap the ball if you want to hit him running to the sideline.

If you take a second to actually read the play, you are screwed at hitting the receiver where you want to.

As of right now, skip RPOs because for me, it is either going to be a run for a loss because the CPU always seems to have two or three lineman run free like it is a screen play, or if I decide to pull out and throw the ball, I get an illegal man upfield 95% of the time.

Re: RPO wr route

when I call an RPO, I check to see the WR running a slant. if the DB is playing off, I will hike it and check real quick if the DE/LB is dropping back in coverage; if he isn't, I will throw a low pass most of the time and get a completion. Sometimes it's wide open and I'll get 10 yards or so.

This. The only time I can successfully pass in an RPO is if the WR route is a bubble screen. Anything else and I'm guaranteed to have an illegal man downfield.

I like the rpo, If the cb is in press coverage you basically have to run, if he's playing off usually can get some yards. It seems like the decision needs to be made pre snap and then you throw immediately after snap in passing situations.

You're passing it too late then. A good amount of the RPO's are pre-snap reads and the throw should be made immediately.
