Honestly, I think madden has a faux pocket today, it's just too dangerous for the average user and it's a little less structures.

Like look at the 09 videos... I see spots where he could stand (in the "pocket") and throw, but he's not skilled enough, so he drops back

true, but the gamer should be punsish and not awarded for the 20 step drop. He should be sacked and not be able to throw a 50 yard strike down the field.

I KNOW that won't sit well with everyone, but i'm just brainstorming.
Madden already has the qb drops.

Plain and simple. Everyone loves options.

Re: Serious Talk: Pocket passing

"I subscribe to the believe that Madden should implement a pocket, but it's not #1 on my list. Realistically speaking, after a 3 step drop, the ball is supposed to be OUT of the QB's hands. In general, the ball is supposed to be out as soon as possible."

As I'm sure you are already aware, each play has a designated step drop for the QB. The ball is not always supposed to be out of the QB's hands after the 3rd step.

"With that said, do you really think the average person has the mental skills of a QB to read a defense and react in a timely enough fashion to even utilize a pocket?"

I'd like to think so. I know some folks hate to hear me say it (so cover your ears lol) but NFL2K5 provided a secure pocket. Making it easy for QB's to scramble and to drop back 15 yards is giving football fans and consumers a misrepresentation of the sport.

"The reason why people drop back SO FAR is because they are scared of being sacked. He has to look at himself AND the field, much like the panic that REAL NFL QBs face, except that they have such a knowledge of the playbook and the game, that they can overcome it."

Exactly. Since there is no pocket forming, you don't feel secure at all to stand back there and deliver a pass. Someone earlier said it perfectly: without a secure pocket, you're almost invited to roll out, scramble, or drop back an excess amount of yards.

"With that being said, how can madden Effectively implement a pocket and cater to the ignorance of the average, casual fan's football IQ? because in today's madden, u can stand in the pocket area if you want, but it's just fearful because we aren't skilled enough to do so"

You're speaking for yourself lol. I'm not pretending to be a football wiz but in a videogame, it's not hard to stand in a pocket and deliver a pass. EA/Tiburon shouldn't dumb down the strategy and tactics of the game just to appease the casual gamer. This is a simulation after all, right?

Re: Serious Talk: Pocket passing

I'm not sure why this should be so hard- the 2K series has had a proper pocket and proper quarterback drops for years and years. The quarterback autodrops to the appropriate depth and you know when he plants his back foot it's time to deliver the ball.

The issue is, for the thousandth time, the suction blocking. Because DE's don't get pushed past the quarterback, they get sucked into the blockers, so you're going to have a ton of room for the QB to run to because the defensive end isn't anywhere near as far upfield as he should be. Just stop locking up the defensive ends and you'll have a situation where if the quarterback drops too far back, the defensive end has a clear angle to him (and the OT doesn't know to keep blocking because he's done his job already by pushing the DE too far upfield). Sack. Rinse and repeat and people will stop taking 20 yard drops. The reason they do it now is because there if much more reward to doing so than there is reward for standing in the (non-existent) pocket.
