Clearly I have to break it down for ya'll non-football people! LOL

Acceleration is the distance it takes to reach your top speed!(it is) So if it takes you 6 yards to reach your top speed thats what your accel is. Now take that same 6 yards that measures out to be your accel the 1 to 2 yard you gain the most speed in would be consider your burst.

Making acceleration and burst the same thing people!

Most physics professors would disagree with you, acceleration is how fast an object speeds up over time, it has nothing to do with top speed. There are no special physics for football.

Personally, I think they need 4 ratings to deal with this (not counting agility)...

EXP-Explosiveness- rate at which a player goes from a dead stop to functional speed

SPD-Speed- Functional speed

BST-Burst- rate at which player goes from functional speed to full stride speed

SPT-Sprint- Full stride speed.

... or they could just leave all the meaningless ratings that aren't used anymore, like run block and pass block, in the game wasting space. I prefer my idea

These are not bad, either. Not sure all 4 are necessary. But I definitely get what you're saying.
