Please tell me we will be able to throw a slant pass in 10

Just got done with a little franchise action and can I just say I am so peeved at the inability to throw a slant pass in this game.

Case in point, I line up behind center, my WR to my left has a nice little cushion between the LB, so I say, cool, let's try a quick slant. I hot route the WR to a quick slant, and hike the ball.

Everything looks good as the WR starts to break inside, the LB hesitates, I attempt to fire the ball off, and whammo, the LB, not even looking at the ball, sticks his hands up and just cuts the ball off, interception.

What went wrong here; well first off the LB wasn't even looking at side of the field I threw to, and instead of my QB tucking the ball in stride with the WR, it sailed a bit and the LB just jumped on it.

I'm not trying to make this a rant but it is truly frustrating when you see what you want to do but cannot emulate it into the game.

No way to know at this point. We know procedural awareness will help this, but we don't know if the mechanical aspects will make it into 10. There seems a strong chance that aspect of the technology will have to wait for 11.

On the other hand, it's possible improved inertia/momentum physics will help this in and of itself, but it's still wait and see time at this point.

Yeah slants are a bit hard to make but i think slowing down the game by 5% will help make better decisions to see if someone got open.
My theory anyways

I disagree, Slants are easy to hit, all about timing

i see people using them online a bit, all slants from shotgun is my #1 goaline play

man 2 man, outside receivers get open, zone inside recievers all based on timing, kinda hard vs cover 2, easy vs cover 3.

main reason ur having difficulty is the amazing catch up time of the DBs, but the emphasis on accel/deceleration, turning rates, and COD speed should make coverages play much more realistic.

Slants are all about timing. They are not a problem.

However, the people picking the ball off like that happens alot to me on many routes. Procedural awareness is supposed to help alot.

I think the problem is not that the LB's are picking it off, but that the LB's are intercepting without ever seeing the ball. If the LB tracked the QB's eyes and jumped on the ball, that would be a fantastic play.

Seeing the ball is so important in football. Remove the telekenisis please. Procedural Awareness should make us happier.

The no look ints are part of my problem. The ones that really bother me though are where the LB is running one way and stops/turns without taking any steps then leaps in the direction opposit of what he was just running to intercept the ball.

Re: Please tell me we will be able to throw a slant pass in 10

I agree with the OP, 100%.

This is an issue that I have spent over a week of actual game time on. Quick slants, and slants are a vital component in my offensive game plan. I use them to force the defense to roll up the corners in BNR. Also, its a great way to get a defense to play some zone when used effectively.

However, throwing quick slants & slants in '09 is a nightmare. Here's the numbers I ended up with.

Out of 100 balls thrown: 19 completed, 34 intercepted, 47 tipped, swatted, or dropped. 19 out of 100. I used Romo & Owens.

I have worked on timing, I tried to back shoulder the WR to protect the football. I even worked on throwing the ball low to keep it out of traffic...none of it worked.

81 of 100 passes gone in favor of the defense? Thats not right.

...and if you doubt these numbers, I seriously encourage anyone to do it on your own. Don't take my word for it.

I ran base packages on both offense & defense, then blitzed on defense to simulate the pressure...and max protected on offense.

i can't stand trying to execute my style of play, all I end up doing is punting. I can never setup a big play. I can't do anything underneath with any consistancy (except cheesy screen plays). So, I can't get singled up to go deep...

i'm totally convinced that this will not be a problem in 10.

WR/DB interaction, the momentum tweeks, decrease in overall game speed, and the re-scaled ratings. When you combine that with the new QB ratings & procedural awareness...its a no brainer.

This year, defenses will have to pick their poison. Die slow, or suddenly.
