Download OpenOffice, a open-source and free office product suite from Sun Microsystems. It can open MS Office files.

Re: Don't have Excel. How can I view the rookie file?

Most Excel files can be opened in Notepad and viewed as text ,though it's busted usually and shows as Comma delineated or something similar. But, best way...

If you have Gmail / Google account, download the excel. Open up Google documents, go to "file -> upload" and upload the XLS, Google will convert it. If you don't have a Google account (which you should have, it's free, do it already!), there's web apps if you do a quick search that will convert any document to a PDF... If you have an adobe.com account (free) go to http://www.acrobat.com and you can upload the XLS and it'll convert to PDF... etc.

I'd go to the Google documents route if you don't want to download anything...If you're looking to do something simple, like just opening up a file, Google Docs makes a lot more sense othan downloading Open Office or having to look for open source office-like tools. Google Docs does it better than most of them anyway ... it's free, in the cloud, and works.

Alternatively, if someone posts a link to the excel file, I'll load it into my google docs and share it. I just don't feel like hunting and picking for the xls to download.

Download the file then rename the filetype ".xlr"... should open in your default spreadsheet program, whichever one that is.
