Re: Best quarter length?

CPU v CPU simmed games in CFM average a tad more than NFL for total plays (66 for 2013 thus far). I ran the numbers and came up with an average of 69 plays per game per team (rushes, passes, plus sacked) through the first several weeks of play.

If you want to accurately measure up statistically against other teams in your CFM you need to be in this total play range. More than this and you favorably skew your offensive numbers, less than this and you do the same for your defensive stats.

You basically need 15 minute quarters to accomplish this, unless you pass a ton or are dominating TOP. A run off of 14 to 18 seconds, depending on play selection, on 15 minute quarters should get you in the range of this number and thereby give your stats true relevance to the rest of the CFM.

Yes, I understand we all don't want to invest this much time in a game or simply can't set aside that much time, but that's how it is. Too bad EA doesn't allow for the adjustment of simmed game lengths....maybe in the next 25 years eh?

Which is why you need a slider set.

With Charter's, I enjoy 10 minute q's with a 12 second run-off. Some games can go a hair too quick play # wise, some (with more passing) sneak over the 120 mark, which I like.

It more or less takes an hour, which I think is a respectable real-time game length.

I play on 15 minute quarters, 16 acc clock, and game speed is set to slow. I find that I generally get pretty realistic results in terms of scores and possessions, although I never really looked at the number of plays. I'm still playing around with the sliders trying to find a good balance.

Re: Best quarter length?

I run 12 minute quarters with runoff to 17 seconds. This gives me enough time to read the defense and make quick adjustments or call an audible. It's also enough to force me to use a time out occasionally to avoid a delay of game. It works out to be just over 60 plays per team, which is roughly NFL average.

Re: Best quarter length?

I run 15 minute quarters with a 13 second play clock on all madden custom sliders. It usually takes me about 45 mins for one game and the stats and scores are very realistic.
