yah but it's still july the game isnt done till it says gone gold they still have enough time to be tweaking stuff and improving stuff in the 2005 game what im saying is to complain about what [censored] isnt that good once the game is out and you yourself can judge what's good and what's bad about the game it's like automatically saying this book sucks when u havent even seen it yet or bought it.

No, that's not how it works. At this point in development. There focus is glitches and bugs, such as the Draft Class issue on Xbox from last year, or the accidental hurry-up from last year. Those sort of things. That's it.

bk, you may want to explain exactly WHAT in the posts was the problem. many of us here know, but many will claim it's b/c he's backing madden since this is a ESPN site. you may not care (i wouldn't) but considering you added the quotes i'm guessing you were at least trying to show why...

deejay, you ignored what i thought was a very important and well thought out post. i'm too lazy to dig back and quote but the point is you can take any sports game, find the right group of people and make it play pretty realistically and enjoy it. this is especially true with games that are of the quality of madden. it's also true, as triggerfish stated, that any game will have it's group that will try to abuse as many ai glitches and bugs as possible.

during this time of year, us gamers are hoping that all games are making strides to make it as close to impossible as these developers can to have tricks to abuse glitches and bugs work in games. i personally think madden is one of the worse in terms of this AND that the developers don't do enough from year to year to try to change that.

when the game comes out, people that like it will like it and people that don't won't. if you have your core group you'll all agree on what to not abuse and all try to play realistically to have a great experience but you should still expect more. were they busy fixing some things that they ran out of time for others? that's a good excuse... i don't see that though. I want to play as many people as possible without worrying about them even HAVING THE ABILITY to beat me doing stupid, unrealistic things. the only thing i should have to worry about is them quitting. i play in my small group just like you but i'd love to do national tournaments, official torunaments, things for money, etc. but i'll never even sniff one of these options until the POSSIBILITY of "cheese" is gone and i don't see EA doing much of anything to make that happen and in ways it feels that they are going backwards. hearing the word "defense" from them finally makes it seem like MAYBE they're thinking about it but it still remains to be seen.

Amen.

First of all I really like Madden. I spent a few hundreds dollars on Madden series since the PS1. Few years ago I said Madden is a burnt cake with frosting on it. The franchise will be off the hook but the same game play problems will be there also. I always had a problem with their db ai and the Madden team haven't really adressed this issue. The way Madden adress this issue is by taking out plays that exploit their poor ai. I am sorry this is not db ai improvement but more frosting. The run and gun playbook had some plays in it that was too effective, so they took those plays out of the game. This was according the VG new interview.

I dont understand why the db ai improved in the NCAA series but not in the Madden series. In NCAA 2002 the db ai suffer from similiar problems Madden had but in 2003 and 2004 the db ai been improved. No, head tracking is a joke since your college team is on their 2nd year of doing it.

Peace

well actually, they didn't take the plays out. Just watch the ign movies movie #4...twin fades is still there, shotgun bunch formation they still got all the cheap plays... vert pressure, twin fades, wr post corner, everything identical routes except for the twin fade routes are more of a go rt. instead of the fade last yr's version

Re: This is why I worry about Madden 2005!!!

just watched all the videos and i have only one complaint:

IGN video game reviewers dont know jack about how to play football. i take what they say with a grain of salt already but now i have video proof.

my favorite was the 40 yard drop back. i think a bunch of NFL Offensive Coordinators will be putting that play in next year.

"OK Donavan, drop back 15 yards, hesitate, run 8 or 9 yards left and check the field, then drop back 10 to 15 more. everybody should be open. trust me, it's foolproof."

what was your favorite stupid play those guys made?

Going for it on 4th down isn't cheese. It's a gamble. The fact is, we shouldn't have to screen oponents for "cheese."

The creators of Madden should sit down at a round table and ask the question. "What is cheese and how can we prevent it." If they do this, I guarantee you a world of difference in the way everyone plays the game.

No, as long as you give people freedom to make game decisions there will always be people who make dumb ones. EA can never fix this without being so restrictive that the game would then become unrealistically conservative.

The truth is alot of us hate cheese and complain it works too much (and it does) but EA has been doing alot better with cutting down on the percentages that it works. For every cheeser who beats my str8 play online I also can name about the same instance of where smart football and str8 play beat the cheese (who of course quits when he sees he can't beat you using his nonsense). It's still not quite 100% where it should be but its gotten alot better.

The best EA can do right now, and what they have done, is have peoples style of play such as % of time they run hurry up, % of time they scramble with QB, etc etc...and that's exactly what they have done. EA can't control how people play, nor should they, but by allowing us to see that someone plays cheesy we can then make a decision on whether or not to play that person. That's been the main problem in the past, not that people played a style you didn't like, but that you had no idea when playing someone you didn't know how they played the game and if it fit what you considered to be cheesy or not.

Did any of you [censored] play the game yet no so stop [censored] complaning until you got the damn game in your hands then say what sucks and what doesn't it's ******** bitching about a game when you havent played it.

Yes I've played the game before, it's called Madden 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004. We're not talking about a new game here. We know what to expect from the Madden series, and if the videos show that it's not fixed, then they won't be. What, you expect the video game fairy to wave her wand and the game issues will magically be fixed?

You're really bad at this whole debating thing. Just stop.

actually i wont stop people are *******es if you think the game doesnt improve at all everyyear cause it does i hope to hell that when it's out people will feel like jerks when there playing it and realising that it doesnt play at all like 2001,2002,2003,2004 then people will finally shutup about how ea doesnt improve [censored] all.

The game at its core plays like 2001 with changes in animations, game speed and AI. That's it. The additions that Tiburon always makes is to Franchise. Then they throw in stuff that we don't ask for, and fail to address the bigger gameplay issues correctly.

Can honestly tell me, that 2004 plays like a brand new game compared to 2001? Good God I hope not.

yes because 2001 was the first on PS2 and it was CRAP! Yes it does play better than 2001.

Re: This is why I worry about Madden 2005!!!

there is nothing cheesy with going for it on 4th and 10 no matter what the field position, there is nothing cheesy about lining dante hall up at qb , there is nothing cheesy about never kicking field goals there shouldn't be anything in the game to prevent a user from doing those things, but those things shouldn't be rediculously effective either. exploiting a glitch that lets you reccover a rediculous number of onside kicks is cheesy pausing the game and using uncompetetive tactics is cheesy, but anything a coach can do as far as substitution, play selection and route selection is fair game.
