imported NCAA draft class....rookie ratings in season 2 of Madden 2010

Ok, so I imported a draft class from NCAA 2010, and here are a few notable ratings for incoming rookies.

*QB* (disappointing overall QB class)

Tim Tebow - 73 OVR (tied for highest rating)
Sam Bradford - 73 OVR (tied for highest rating)
Colt McCoy (won the Hiesman in my NCAA season) - 52 OVR (33 AWR, 73 THP, 79 THA)
Dan LeFevour - 35 OVR (71 SPD, 35 AWR, 63 THP, 54 THA)

No problems with the top QB's in the draft, Tebow and Bradford. 73 seems like a pretty good rating for them. Although Stafford starts as a 79 and IMO Bradford is a better prospect...
McCoy at 52 is a joke!
LeFevour at 35 is absurd. 54 throw accuracy?? There are four punters in the game with better accuracy than that.


*HB* (surprising, yet acceptable and satisfying HB class)
Legarrette Blount - 84 OVR (highest) (91 spd)
Stafon Johnson - 80 OVR (89 spd)
Charles Scott - 79 OVR (88 spd)
John Clay - 69 OVR (82 spd)
Jahvid Best - 69 OVR (89 spd) seems a bit slow
Armando Allen - 65 OVR (92 spd)
CJ Spiller - 64 OVR (93 spd) about right for speed

The HB's seem okay to me. Blount is a bit of a surprise as the top HB, but he was a TD machine in college (scoring 17 TD's in my NCAA season), further leading me to believe that stats affect draft status and ratings. Best is a 96 spd in college and a 7 point drop seems a bit drastic. Spiller is a nice surprise to see keep his speed. 64 is a bit low, but the speed and potential are there (B potential).

*WR* (terrible WR class)
Jordan Shipley - 74 OVR (89 spd)
Niles Paul - 73 OVR (90 spd) this was a big surprise as he wasn't even a top WR in my NCAA season (524 yds, 2 TD)
Riley Cooper - 71 OVR (91 spd)
Brandon Lafell - 63 OVR (82 spd)

Amazingly, those were the TOP 4 WR's coming in as rookies!!
Way too low IMO. Lafell is better than an 82 speed....
Four WR's came in under 50 OVR, with two of those having 74 spd! A nice surprise though was that the other two had 88 and 91 spd respectively, so even low rated players can have very good speed.

Top FB - Richie Brockel (Boise) came in at 79 OVR.
Top TE - Jermaine Gresham came in at 88 OVR.
Top OT - Sam Young (ND) came in at 80 OVR.
Top OG - Sergio Render (VAtech) came in at 80 OVR.
Top C - RJ Willing (BYU) came in at 72 OVR.

Top 3 DE's:
Brandon Graham came in at 71 OVR.
Austin English came in at 69 OVR.
Jermaine Cunningham came in at 69 OVR.
(a bit low for the TOP defensive ends...)
note, George Selvie came in at 63 OVR, despite having 61 tackles, 11 sacks, and 2 FF in my NCAA season.

Top 3 DT's:
Ndamukong Suh came in at 83 OVR.
Charles Alexander came in at 80 OVR.
Demarcus Granger and Jared Odrick both came in at 74 OVR.
(a bit high for the top 2 guys maybe, but as a whole, the DT class seemed okay.)

Top 4 OLB's:
Sergio Kindle came in at 74 OVR.
Sean Weatherspoon came in at 73 OVR.
Eric Norwood came in at 73 OVR.
Roddrick Muckleroy came in at 72 OVR.
An interesting note is that Barry Church, who was in NCAA 2010 as a SS, came into Madden as a ROLB! I think this is a first for the series! Although he only came in as a 47 OVR...

Top 4 MLB's:
Brandon Spikes came in at 84 OVR. Nice.
Ryan Stamper came in at 82 OVR.
Sean Lee came in at 78 OVR.
Orie Lemon came in at 77 OVR.

Although Spikes is right about where he should be, the others seem a bit higher in comparison to how other rookies at other positions have been rated. If CJ Spiller is a 64 OVR, then why should Orie Lemon come in at 77 OVR? It seems EA gave preference to defensive players.....

Top 3 CB's:
Walter Thurmond came in at 78 OVR. (wtf??)
Patrick Robinson came in at 71 OVR.
Perrish Cox came in at 67 OVR.
(note, Javier Arenas - Alabama, came in at 54 OVR with only 80 spd.)
Okay, so maybe EA did not over-rate defensive players. This seems like very low rating for what should be a solid CB class.

One of the pre-season consensus TOP CB's for the 2010 draft is Trevard Lindley (Kentucky) who came in at a 52 OVR with 79 spd.

Top FS:
Taylor Mays came in at only 75 OVR.
Major Wright came in at 74 OVR.
TJ Ward came in at 73 OVR.

Kendrick Lewis (Ole Miss) came in at a paltry 40 OVR with 76 spd.

Top SS:
Justin Woodall came in at 79 OVR.
Josh Pinkard came in at 73 OVR.
Darrell Stuckey came in at a72 OVR.

Darien Stewart (SouthCarolina) came in at a paltry 40 OVR with 74 spd.




Overall, everything seems a bit off.
Jermaine Gresham as the top player rated overall at 88 is okay.
The QB's all seem a bit low, especially McCoy.

The top rated players at each position seem to be rated at okay levels.
However, the lowest rated players at each position are just absurdly low. Dan LaFevour at 35 OVR? Please EA.... he is a poor man's Tebow (although potentially with more upside). No QB in the game (rookie or not) should have a lower throw accuracy rating than PUNTERS!

from what i see im pretty happy that rookies this year are on kindof the low end of the ratings scale but i do believe mccoy and lefeavour also jahvid best should have bumped up ratings but overall i like it its not like last year where tyson jackson was always a 99

Cool. It would be much appreciated if you would have a few guys have huge seasons and then import them and see if anything changes based on their stats. Thanks for doing all of this.

Hopefully there's some sort of random element or mistake with this...there's no way that LeFevour (or really any QB good enough to be in the draft pool, for that matter) should have stats like that. Have you tried doing this again, and seeing what the differences might be?

I'll try and sim another NCAA season again tomorrow night and see if the results are different and try to determine if there is more of a correlation between a players stats in NCAA and the rating they get coming into Madden.

It may just be random though. LaFevour had a great season, passing for 3415 yds and 24 TD's with only 8 int's. He also rushed for 671 (which is a bit low for him.) Central Michigan only finished 5-7 though, so I wonder if that has any bearing....?
Matt Grothe was injured for half the year, only passing for 1209 yds and 7 td's. He came in at a 45 OVR.

It does seem strange that ANY player worthy of being in the draft pool at all should come in as low as a 35 OVR though....
When a QB comes in at 35 OVR, there is NO possibility for him to develop into a solid starter.

My only issue with doing this for you all is time. I work full time and I have a family (wife and 2 yr old son), so time is precious, but I'll see what I can do.
I mean, most of you will have the game by Friday and will be able to see this all for yourselves anyways.... lol.
I am curious to see if the incoming rookie ratings are random though or tied to NCAA stats. So I'll try to sim the same NCAA season multiple times, import each of those various draft classes and see if we get different results. I'll post again tomorrow (Thurs) night.

they don't fix the ratings people complain, they fix the ratings people complain, this is why Ian SPECIFICALLY stated that they lowered the ratings this way on purpose so that they can improve. If Tebow is a 99 already, where will his improvements come from? This is why if he's a 73, you can take them to training and build on their skills. i just don't understand. The rating are perfect( by this i mean mature). Go to the lab and put some work in like i do!!!

perfect example, look at Matt Lineart, Reggie Bush, and Vince Young. These guys where Studs in college and reggie bush broke all sorts of records at USC.

What are they now?

Reggie Bush: cant seem to stay off the injury list, ever since Sheldon Brown welcomed him to the NFL, he hasn't been the same since.

Matt Lineart: Pretty boy lineart hasn't done anything in the NFL besides loose his job twice to a 39 yr old QB.

Vince Young: Nuff said

So college greats don't always project well for the NFL, just ask Andre Ware, Eric Crouch, Ryan Leaf, Gregg Wolfe, Gerrad Warren, Dwayne Robertson, etc... the list goes on!!!
