Graphics or Gameplay? Need More Space?

Often I read about limitations on graphics when a lot of memory is used on atmosphere, sidelines, and weather in football games. I have heard the same in terms of gameplay. This leads me to my question.

Didn't the console makers know that the systems they were making were too powerful for the DVD's in which the games were being made on? Its like trying to put a old big block engine inside a ford escort, right? Which leads me to my next question...

Why are the games not being made on HD DVD's which hold more memory????

I need to research this more but I don't think any of this stuff makes much sense at this point. All I know is, I am not really getting the gaming experience i thought I was when I shelled out all that money for this "New and improved next generation" technology.

i know. this is what is hendering the great push for gameplay and graphics and all the other things that can be added to the game. look at what 2k did with their football game and if the license was still open, they would be light years ahead in the game. i don't think its that i believe they need more developers and make to more time for developement. this would help tremendously i believe.

By the way, I thought the market was shifting to blue-ray discs anyway. From what I understand blue-ray discs hold even more space, right? So what gives?

Why all this posturing? And if XBox 360 is not Blue-ray compatible which I don't think it is...Is an upgrade availible?

That is a great reply and it gets me to thinking...

As a customer, would I be willing to pay $99.00 for a football game? Well, I actually might. If the game had everything! And I mean everything! It woud be irresistable...and that leads me to my final question...

Why wont EA take more time to create Madden?

I don't think people can wait. Every 2 years and release the game? What needs to happen is they need to start with an foundation and when switching to a next system not strip it all down and start over.

360 I believe is suppose to have an add on for Blu-ray but I think what we have is what we are stuck with.

Re: Graphics or Gameplay? Need More Space?

After reading this article...I don't even think blue-ray will make a difference...lol Its crazy its like these systems are already maxed out. at least from a practical development standpoint anyhow.

http://http://www.eurogamer.net/arti...ticle_id=68761

So its a matter of making the most out of what we have, so lets trim the fat then...

Hey EA can we ditch the HOF clips from the game and use that space for better 3-d sidelines??? Can we ditch the Ring of a Champion/Ring builder gimmick for more space to improve the game...and while we are trimming off the memory fat lets go ahead and get rid of...

The Position Animation- No need for each position to get a little football player doing a position specific animation in the top right corner of the screen.

Superstar Mode- Can we just admit that this mode is a failure? Can we take the tremendous amount of space for this mode and apply it to some wickedly cool 3-d cut scene of crowds, or sidelines?

Tutorials- Please remove this from the game, and use this space for something useful. You can put the tutorial in the intruction manual where it belongs.

EA Sports Extras- Please remove this waist of vaulable disc space. I'd much rather have this disc space being used to enhance the copy of Madden that I just bought instead of it being used to try and pitch me other games I really don't care about at all, or will not buy.

Showcase- The whole trophy room idea sounds nice and all, but I'd much rather get all the memory I can going into actually gameplay, graphics, and immersion.

Customize Ring/Showcase- Come on, need I say more?

Mini Games- This may be worth keeping if the game itself were everything we all are trying to make it be, again it seems like a waist of space in the grand scheme of things.

HD-DVD is a dead format even if it wasn't M.S. knew they could never make games on it since they didn't **** the xbox with an HD-DVD drive standard.

Secondly you will only see developers using the extra space that are in blu-ray discs in Sony exclusive games if its multiplatform they pretty much have to be the same.

If the game had absolutely everything I expect in an NFL simulation, I might be willing to pay that much. EA would need to overachieve in every area, though. Sooner or later, the price will go up, but it needs to be worth it.

Quite simply, they don't have it. It's an annual title, and I don't think that will ever change.

IMO, EA needs to hire more people. See the recent interview in which Philip Holt talked about the development process. In the interview, Holt said, "It’s about a 35-person team. There are probably another 15 people who are in central groups that support the team directly."

50 people. Is that enough? Some would say yes. Some would say no.

It keeps coming back to the NFL license. Because of it, there's a lot of pressure for Madden to be all things to all people. Maybe the answer is to officially split the game into two titles (Madden and Head Coach) and have the franchise mode be part of HC. No? Hey, it's just an idea.

Madden 09 looks like a new beginning, and I'm thrilled about that. All signs point to Madden 2010 being a truly great NFL game. But seriously, there better be refs in it!
