Re: Ratings

I agree that a guy who runs a 4.2 should probably have 99 speed but only after EA makes speed a much less important rating that only comes into effect when a player actually has time to hit that top speed like in the open field. Acceleration and reaction time should play a much bigger role in most situations.

Perfect example = Matt Jones. 4.3 40 but a snail on the field.

He's a snail because he's slow footed, and has a long stride. He's like a big ol' cadillac, it takes him a bit to get going. Plus, routes in the NFL are not just about running full speed so...But, I hear you. I even agree...not all 4.2 speed is lightning..some of it is deciptive.

I think EA really should look at adding a quickness rating, something that gives a player sudden burst. Accl is good but even that does not account for plain quickness.

Speed kills, quickness demolishes.

Re: Ratings

Ok im gonna have to take up for Matt Jones on this one. The routes where he was asked to be a deep threat he did just that. When he was allowed to run downfield he made space between him and the Corner.

He was being used like a TE/Dump down back with the Jags. He would be asked to run a route of 8 yards and then turn around so Garrard could dump it off to him.

Last season he had a breakout season. He had 65 receptions for 761 yards and 2 TDs. That 11.7 yards per catch isn't great but if you go back to his second season he averaged 15.7 yards per catch because he was being uses as a deep threat.

What i don't understand about the Jags and Jones situation is that they didn't release him last season when he was caught with the Coke but they release him when he violated his probation for Drinking A Beer?

Re: Ratings

Another example if you have a WR who runs crisp routes, against a CB who runs a 4.2. I don't care how fast you are if you can't controll you speed your going to get done. There is speed and football speed. Chris Johnson for the Titans, you won't catch him if he has pads on or none.
